HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Old Kilnenor Historical Society is holding a 1916 Commemorat­ion to remember the local involvemen­t in the Rising, including; Paddy Boland (Pallas), Mick Kilty (Custodium) and John O’Donohoe (Knockbrack). The Ceremony will take place in Pallas on Sunday, June 5, after a special Commemorat­ion Mass at 11 a.m. mass in Sts Peter and Paul Church (Kilanerin). Followed by entertainm­ent and refreshmen­ts. Traffic diversions will be in place.

WHIST

First lady at last week’s whist was won by Meg Doyle; second lady was Eileen Furlong; third lady Peg McDonald; half time lady was Eilish Murphy; first gent was Mary McCarthy; second gent was Betty Rose; third gent was Cyril Bryan; half time gent was Marie Cushe. Raffle winners on the night were Sadie Mordaunt, Lil Kavanagh and Mary Ellen Askins. Whist continues on Wednesday night at 8.30 p.m.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Team of the week goes to the national school boys team who defeated Castletown schools 4-7 to 4-4 in the District final of the Rackard League. They are now in the Wexford semi-final. Bring lots of support to that exciting game.

The under-12s are in Camolin on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. The under-14s have a bye and of course the under-16s and 18s are on exam break. The under-10s start on June 17. The adult first team defeated Bannow-Ballymitty on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-13 in a tight match in Bellefield on Sunday the 29th. The second team are out Saturday, June 4, at 2.30 p.m. in Monamolin against St Pat’s. The Hurlers are out the 11th/12th.

There was no jackpot winner in the lotto on the 23rd. The numbers were 7, eight,10, 27. There were two match-three winners. Next draw is on the sixth in Noels with a jackpot of €4100.

The under-14 girls football beat Naomh Eanna 6-10 to 2-6 last Tuesday in Gorey. It was a great team performanc­e. The under-14 camogie girls narrowly lost out to Geraldine O’Hanrahans. It was their third ever camogie match with two away games this week.

Well done to Roisin Noctor who represente­d Wexford in Croke Park last Saturday in the half time match. Also to Lorcan Browne who managed the boys team in their half time game. Both teams won. Congratula­tions to Niall Hughes too on his first experience in Croke park. No doubt he shall play there often for club and county.

MEMORIAL DRIVE

Darragh D’Arcy memorial drive takes place on Sunday, June 5, at midday at Naomh Eanna GAA Grounds Gorey, Cars, Vintage Bikes Trucks €10 admission A great family day out with face painting bouncy castle, bubble football etc. There will also be an auction and raffle on the day. All are welcome to come along and join in.
