RISING TO THE ABILITY CHALLENGE

- By AMY LEWIS

PEOPLE of all ages and abilities will rise to the challenge in Enniscorthy at this year’s Ability Challenge on August 20.

The event, which was recently launched in the Astro Active Centre, is a fully-inclusive sporting fundraiser aimed at people over 16 with and without disabilities. It will see teams compete against one another in a series of physical and mental tests in an effort to gain points before taking on the final event – ‘Disco Dome of Terror’.

The official launch of the event was attended by a large crowd, including sponsors Tom and Patrick Doyle from Tom Doyle Supplies and former Irish footballer Paul McGrath. As a patron for one of the beneficiaries Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, the sporting legend is fully backing the event and was at the launch to represent the many other patrons who are on board.

The event is open to everyone over the age of 16 and all proceeds raised will go to the Irish Wheelchair Association, Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, County Wexford Community Workshop Enniscorthy and Windmill Therapeutic Unit.

There will be 10 individual events running throughout the day including wheelchair basketball and shotput, a teamwork game, puzzles, a wet and wild obstacle course, guessing game and bocce. Each game is designed to push people beyond their limits and promote the different abilities that individuals have.

Speaking at the launch, Patrick Doyle from Tom Doyle Supplies said:

‘It is our pleasure to be part of such a worthy cause and to be able to give something back to those who really need it. We are very proud to be the official sponsors for the event.’

Registration is now available online and the organisers are also looking for almost 60 volunteers to assist on the day.
