‘It’s a case of keeping calm’

OVER 1,000 students in the district will sit their Leaving and Junior Cert exams in the coming days and weeks.

Alongside the 280 Leaving Cert students and 240 Junior Cert students in Gorey Community School, there are an additional 100 Junior Cert students in Creagh College.

On top of that, there are 55 Junior Cert and 42 Leaving Cert students at Coláiste an Átha, Kilmuckridge, and 138 Leaving Cert students and 159 Junior Cert students in Coláiste Bhríde Carnew.

‘It’s a case of keeping calm,’ said Coláiste an Átha deputy principal Raymond Furlong. ‘When the exams are over, don’t dwell on it, and focus on the next exam.’

He advised them to look after themselves over the next few weeks.

Once the exams are over, the builders move in to begin work on a new science lab and music room, as the school continues to grow.

Coláiste Bhríde Carnew principal Linda Dunne has full faith in her students. ‘Hopefully their time spent at Coláiste Bhríde Carnew will allow hem to receive the best Leaving Cert they can hope to achieve,’ she said. ‘I wish them the best for the future, and I look forward to seeing them again in August.’

She said that every corner of the school will be taken up with exam centres and special centres, adding that a lot of work has gone into organising the exams.

In Creagh College, Gorey, it’s the third year of the Junior Cert exams. Principal Paul Glynn had some advice for his students.

‘Do your best. Don’t panic,’ he advised. Don’t waste time doing a post mortem afterwards, just concentrate on the next one. When it’s over, move on, and enjoy the summer.’

He advised the students to get plenty of sleep, eat well, and take exercise. ‘Whatever happens, life will go on,’ he said.

Next year sees Creagh College hold its first Leaving Cert exams, as the school turns sixyears-old.

The 120 students, who have just finished fifth year, will be preparing to sit down to their first exam this time next year.
