Creagh College honours student achievements
THE achievements and successes of students at Creagh College Gorey were celebrated at the school awards ceremony last week.
It was a busy year inside and outside of class, and awards were presented in each subject area, as well as for attendance, class tutor, Spirit of Creagh, Student of the Year. Extra-curricular awards included sport, drama, art, debating, Student Council, music, Green Schools, Gaisce and Meitheal.
Guest of Honour Colm O’Gorman, director of the Irish Branch of Amnesty International, spoke to the students about the work of Amnesty International and encouraged them to play their part in making the world a better place.
The Spirit of Creagh awards were presented to each year group by special guests Eilis Leddy, Education Officer with Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board ( WWETB); Colm O’Gorman; Jim Moore, Chairperson of WWETB; and Cllr Malcolm Byrne. These winners were: First Year, Ciaran Bush; Second Year, Allanna Colfer; Third Year, Craig Keegan; and Fifth Year, Emma Polglase.
The Student of the Year awards were presented by principal Paul Glynn. They went to: First Year, Kate Byrne; Second Year, Sam Walsh; Third Year, David Reck; and Fifth Year, Clara Theloe. The overall academic award, sponsored by the Parents’ Council, was won by Fifth Year student Caolan Power.
