GAA NOTES

A family fun day will be held in Ballyroebu­ck Pitch on Sunday, August 21. There will be lots of fun and games, including an under age blitz and a hurling final to name but a few. Also taking place will be the official opening of the extension and unveiling of the memorial plaque. Watch this space for more informatio­n.

On Sunday, July 10, the Junior Hurlers took on Duffry Rovers and although this game was also played in dull, wet, windy conditions, they emerged victorious. Playing against the slope and the wind in the first half, our lads led by a single point, 0-6 to 0-5 at half-time. With the wind behind them, they went on to win comfortabl­ey, 2-13 to 1-7 with the two goals coming from Matthew Dunne and Bryan Dwyer.

The Minor hurlers also won, beating neighbours Ferns by 1-14 to 1-10 on Tuesday the 12th JUly

The previous night, the U-6 hurlers took on Oulart-The Ballagh in a thrilling game. At the same time, the U-8s took on St. Martin’s in a very evenly matched encounter.

On Sunday last, July 17, the Junior B hurlers took on and beat Shamrocks. Playing with the benefit of the breeze in the first half, they lead by 1-8 to 0-3 at half-time, the goal coming from Bryan Dwyer seconds before the whistle for the break. The defence had more work to do in the second-half, with Seán Doran starring at fullback, but our lads still managed to stetch their lead to 1-14 to 0-6 by the end of the game. On Wednesday night, the 6th. of July, the U-10’s hosted the Craanford football team in Monageer and won well in a keenly contested game. Oisín Stafford and Seán Óg Gilbride were excellent and when Conor Martin moved from defence to attack, he scored 1-2.

CARDIAC SCREENING

Monageer/Boolavogue GAA club is hosting a cardiac screening day on Saturday, August 6, from 9.30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Screening can help prevent SADS–Sudden Adult Death Syndrome which kills two young people in Ireland each week. The cost of screening is €65 but is available free to Laya Medical Insurance holders. If you wish to be screened, please book online at amds.ie and use the code MONAGEER when booking.

CAMOGIE NEWS

The U-8s played four great games in a blitz on Saturday afternoon, beating Glynn-Barntown, Cushinstow­n and Gussarane before losing their final game to Kilrush-Askamore. Their star player was Ruby Flynn-Doyle who score three smashing goals.

FANTASTIC FORÓIGE!

Congratula­tions to the Boolavogue Foróige group who were awarded s Youth Citizenshi­p award in City West Hotel in Dublin recently. Their hosting of the annual senior-citizens’ Christmas party was recognised for the organisati­on and planning it involved.

SUMMER DANCE CAMPS

On Monday, July 18, the first of the Summer Dance Camps organised by the Deirdre Furlong Scoil Rince began in Ferns Community Centre. The second camp will be held in Harney’s Ballyedmon­d and will start on Monday of next week, July 25. The camp starts at 10.30 a.m. each day of the week and finishes at 2 p.m. The camp activities include solo dances, céilí and figure dances as well as arts and crafts. MINISTERS OF THE WORD

The Ministers of the Word on duty next weekend in St. Cormac’s are Rosaleen Gahan at the Vigil Mass on Saturday night and Gaye Gahan at the 11 a.m. Mass in Sunday, July 24. On Saturday evening, July 23, Caroline Farrington is the Eucharisti­c minister on duty while Kathleen Kehoe will help distribute Holy Communion on Sunday morning.

Coolboy Juvenile GAA Club are holding a carwash on Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to midday in Coolafancy Church car park – please come along and show your support.

CPR DAY

Saturday, July 16, was National CPR day and the local first responders attended at Carnew mart, Candy’s and Londis Supermarke­t doing demonstrat­ions in CPR, we would like as many people as possible to be able to do CPR in case of an emergency in sudden cardiac arrest or heart attack, if you would like to learn this vital skill please contact any of the group.

INDOOR MARKET

An indoor market takes place every Saturday in St Aidan’s Hall, Bunclody from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with lots of home baking, cakes, tarts, breads, jams, chutneys, veg, knit wear, crochet, jewellery, perfumes, soaps, all welcome to come along, tea and coffee served.
