Sadness at Dermot’s death
THE DEATH has taken place of the retired seafarer and photographer Mr. Dermot E. Campbell, father of the well-known Wexford cameraman Jim Campbell.
Mr. Campbell of Kennedy Park, Wexford died on Sunday following a brief illness. He was 80 years old. His passing has caused deep sadness to his family and many friends.
A keen photographer, Dermot was the guest of honour recently at the official opening of a public exhibition of his seascape and landscape photographs in Bunclody Library.
In June, he was one of seven sailors honoured at the annual Seafarers Mass in Bride Street Church where he was presented with a medal of distinction by the Wexford Friends of the Tall Ships in the company of the Mayor of Wexford and other civic leaders.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife Kathleen; his children Jim, Joseph, Fiona, Patricia and Peter; his brother Carl, sisters Maureen, Anita, Patricia and Dorothy; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sons-in-law; daughters-in law; brothers-in-law; sisters-inlaw; nieces and nephews, his extended family and friends.
He was sadly predeceased by his daughter Pauline, his brothers Fred, Jackie, Jim and Tommy and his sister Betty.
His funeral Mass will take place in Bride Street Church today ( Tuesday) at 12 noon followed by burial in St. Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown. His family asked for donations, if wished, to Wexford Friends of the Tall Ships, in lieu of flowers.
