WATER FLOWING IN BUNCLODY AGAIN!

- By AMY LEWIS

BUNCLODY’S Mall Stream is back flowing once more following concerns that the main attraction in the village had dried up.

Residents of the village had expressed their concern over the last few weeks after the pump that brings water from the River Clody into the stream fell into disrepair. In recent weeks, a planning enforcement notice was served by Wexford County Council to the Millrace hotel, which is responsible for maintaining the pump that keeps the water flowing.

Cllr Barbara Anne Murphy said that everyone in the village was ‘ thrilled’ to have the Mall stream flowing through Bunclody once more.

‘It is up and running again and hopefully it stays that way. The stream really is the heart of the town,’ she said. ‘For so many people that live here, the stream is really important.’

Cllr Murphy said that she hopes the pump will remain functioning, adding that something permanent must be put in place if it continues to fall into disrepair.

The pump had not been working for over three weeks, which led to the stream drying up. According to Cllr Murphy, it left the attraction ‘disgusting looking’ and caused a bad odour during the warmer weather.

She said she was delighted to have the stream flowing once more, particularly with the Bunclody patron and opening of an art exhibition taking place over the weekend.

‘A lot of people come home to Bunclody from abroad for the patron so the village will be buzzing. It’s great to have the stream back for them,’ she said.
