BALLYTHOMAS READY FOR FABULOUS WEEKEND
THE Gap Arts Festival which takes place in Ballythomas this weekend has a wide range of events to suit all ages.
The festival will feature theatre for adults and children, film, music, a toe-tapping dance band, a late-night outdoor family fire show spectacle and the official unveiling of a unique new community tapestry.
On Friday, August 5, at 8 p.m. there will be the official unveiling of the Kilanerin Ballyfad Annagh Ballythomas Community Tapestry in the Gap Theatre at Ballythomas School. This will be followed by The Gap Mobile Device Film Making Project.
Afterward Donal O’Kelly and Sorcha Fox will star in The Cambria.
On Saturday, August 6, at midday the Gap Cinema at Ballythomas School will screen two 1916-themed films, Mise Eire and Bandages and Bullets.
Popcorn will be served at the Gap Children’s Cinema – a half-hour programme of films and cartoons for children that will be screened all afternoon from 2 p.m. until 5. The 1916 films will be shown again at 5 p.m.
On Saturday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. the Gap Theatre: Fíbín present MacPiarais i bPictiúir – Pearse in Pictures
All Saturday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. there will be a Drop-In Workshop for children at the Gap Marquee. Parents can join in or have a cup of tea while youngsters paint, make art and have fun.
On Saturday at 8 p.m. the Community Tapestry, the mobile films and The Cambria will be performed again in the Gap Theatre:
At 10.15 p.m. that night in the Gap Field there will be an Inferno Fire Show. This late evening family show that will ignite the imagination with its fantastic mix of live music, fire, duels and comedy. The Burning Quest combines music and wonder, epic pyrotechnics and specially built equip- ment, in a majestic outdoor setting. Park at the Gap pub and the free show which last 45 minutes is open to all.
At midnight at the Gap Marquee there will be performances by Atlantic Rhythm Section. Admission is free.
On Sunday at 1 p.m. the Quaid Quartet will perform in Ballythomas School.
