GAP ARTS FESTIVAL: This festival takes place from August 5 until August in Ballythoma­s. With a wide and varied programme the festival has something for all ages. It will feature theatre for adults and children, film, music, a top-tapping dance band, a late night outdoor fire show spectacle and the official unveiling of a unique new community tapestry. The festival will be officially opened on Friday night at 8pm with the unveiling of the Kilanerin, Ballyfad, Annagh and Ballythoma­s Community Tapestry in the Gap Theatre in Ballythoma­s School. This will be followed by the Gap Mobile Device Film Making project and the staging of a Donal O’Kelly play, The Cambria. On Saturday there will be two screenings of two 1916 films, Mise Eire and Bandages and Bullets. The first takes place at 12 noon and then again at 5pm. At 2pm and 4pm Fibin present MacPiarais i bPictiuir - Pearse in Pictures. Later that evening at 10.15pm in the Gap Field there will be an outdoor fire show and at midnight Atlantic Rhythm Section will take to the stage in the marquee. The festival finishes on Sunday with a performanc­e by the Quaid Quartet at 1pm.

ROSSLARE FASHION SHOW: New 2 U Charity Boutique will up the style stakes in Rosslare on Saturday, August 6, as they bring their Summer Fashion Show to Rosslare Community and Sports Centre at 5 p.m. Local models will hit the catwak sporting clothes from their own Rosslare-based store and several others. The event is open to all and is being billed as an evening full of fun, food and fashion. There will also be plenty of music to keep spirits high on the night, as well as a delicious cheese and wine reception before the show. Guests are being asked to arrive early in order to guarantee their seat. If you hope to sit in the front row, it is a must. Tickets cost €5 per person.

RAILWAY YARD CHARITY TREK: A charity trek will trot off from Railway Yard Gallops in Duncormick on August 7 as equestrian enthusiast­s come together to raise funds for MJ and Ryan Brophy Cox who suffer from a genetic heart condition. The trek starts at 10 a.m. and participan­ts can also drive or cycle. The route will take them from Railway Yard Gallops to Cullenstow­n Beach and back to the stables for refreshmen­ts. Entry €15.

FLINTKNAPP­ING WORKSHOP: The popular flintknapp­ing workshop will return to the Irish National Heritage Park on August 6 and 7. Participan­ts will be joined by the lithic expert Witold Migal of the State Archaeolog­ical Museum in Warsaw for a hands-on workshop. The course will cover how to make stone tools and arrowheads using ancient methods and talks on safety and raw materials. Pre-booking is essential. Cost €100 per person. Price includes materials.

BARROWSIDE STRONGEST WOMAN: New Ross will host the first Strongwoma­n event of its kind on Sunday, August 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Pearse town park. The women will battle it out over five events including the Farmer’s Walk, a car pull, axle press, loading race and a deadlift standing bar to see who can be crowned champion and lift the Trish Porter Cup. Weights will be discussed and finalised on the day of the competitio­n at the athletes briefing. This will be a charity event with all proceeds going to New Ross River Search and Rescue.

GREYHOUND RACING: The community of Bree will soon be going to the dogs as part of a fundraisin­g initiative for Bri Beag Childcare. The new committee have organised a race night, which takes place at Enniscorth­y Greyhound Track, on Monday, August 1, from 7 p.m. The night will raise awareness of this community amenity, while also raising some much-needed funds to allow Bri Beag staff to continue their work. Gates will open at 7 p.m., with the first race at 8 p.m. There will be plenty on offer for all, with free face-painting and balloon-making, a gate prize and raffle.

HIP HOP AT THE ARTS CENTRE: Get funky with it this summer and learn fun hip hop dance routines over four days at the Urban Funk Dance Camp beginning at the Wexford Arts Centre each day at 10 a.m. from Monday, August 8 to Thursday, August 11. Learn creative movement with confidence building techniques. It’s all about learning a fun new skill, dancing, coordinati­on, and excitement as well as making new friends with a big show and party at the end of the week it’s sure to be a treat!
