Technology hub expansion
Potential for 600 jobs as developer applies for second tech centre
THE developers behind the new technology centre currently under construction at Knockmullen, Gorey, have applied to Wexford County Council for permission to construct a second building.
The first building in the M11 Business Hub, which should be open by January, will have office accommodation for up to 300 workers, and the second building is expected to accommodate a similar number.
The first building, a three-storey office and technology centre, already has an anchor tenant, Innovate, which employs around 40 staff in Gorey. It is understood to be in ‘growth mode.’
The remaining office space in that building will be used for entrepreneurial start ups and the space is expected to be managed by the Wexford Local Enterprise Office.
It has not yet been revealed if an anchor tenant has been secured for the second building, or when construction might begin, but between them, the two buildings have the potential to bring over 500 new jobs to the town.
In the new application, Tom and Pat Redmond applied to construct a four-storey office and information technology centre.
When they sought permission for the first building, they indicated that it was intended that as interest and demand developed for spaces, that a second and third structure would be added to create an information and technology hub.
