FBD staff make a massive difference at Camphill
CAMPHILL Community in Duffcarrig hosted a Difference Day at the centre recently.
Camphill Duffcarrig is an intentional community and supportive environment for people with special needs outside Gorey. Difference Days work with teams of volunteers from the corporate sector to transform community projects and give back to the community.
In the week before Difference Day Duffcarrig was already a flurry of activity with much ground work being put in place by Denis, Maurice and Adam from Difference Days and the day itself a bus load of volunteers arrived from FBD insurance.
As well as the work with Difference Days, FBD work closely with the Camphill Communities of Ireland and supports its activities in various ways. Volunteers also arrived from Camphill Duffcarrig, from the Camphill Communities of Ireland, and various friends and family also joined.
The day started with a brief gathering to explain the day and to break into groups. There were several groups working on different projects around the community including the herb garden, a new sensory garden, laying of new paths at St. Johns house, work painting the laundry and repairing outdoor furniture, and work on the labyrinth, built some 10 years before, and in need of some tender loving care.
Working throughout the day, the various projects began to unfold quickly, and at the end of the day a massive transformation had taken place.
Volunteer Brian Walsh said: ‘It’s an amazing transformation! It’s just so different. This is also at a really good time as we have our Open Day at the end of the month and we look forward to showing off our beautiful community after all this work.’
At the end of the day the volunteers were thanked with a barbecue, live music and gifts.
