GYMKHANA

Don’t forget to keep Sunday, August 21, free for the annual Johnstown/Coolgreany Gymkhana, which will take place in Coolgreany, with all the usual events, Pony and Horse Jumping starting at 10 a.m., Field day starting at 2 p.m., while the Dog Show is timed for 4 p.m.

The Gymkhana has always been a great source of revenue for both the church and Schools over many years, and your support for the Big Raffle and other events would be very much appreciate­d as usual. Tickets have been delivered to all of the houses in the Parish at present and it is hoped that a big effort will be put into selling them.

The success of the Raffle will be a major funding for the local school. The Gymkhana Booklet is being compiled by Coolgreany Parents on behalf of the local school.

The Committee need as many volunteers as possible to organise this event.

TIDY TOWNS

The Local Committee are appealing to everyone to keep up the good work of the last number of months in picking up rubbish and keeping the village tidy throughout the coming months and help in every way possible.

SYMPATHY

The local community extend their deepest sympathy to Betty McCarthy and family, Askinch on the death of Betty’s sister, Ellen Hanna Kinlough, Co Leitrim, whose burial took place in Kinlough Cemetery on last Monday. May She Rest in Peace.

Deepest sympathy is also extended to the Keyes family, Greystones, and the Lennon family, Coolgreany, on the death of Miriam Keyes (ne Lennon) whose funeral took place on last Thursday in Greystones.

WEDDINGS.

Congratula­tions to Patrick Bracken and Jenny McLoughlin, Johnstown who were married on last Saturday in St David’s Church Johnstown and held their reception in the Woodenbrid­ge Hotel where a large attendance of family and guests joined with the happy couple for a great evening of entertainm­ent.

Congratula­tions also to Carol Alexander Thomastown and Chris Gabyn who celebrated their Irish Wedding Reception with a very big gathering of Family, Friends and neighbours in the Woodenbrid­ge Hotel on last Friday night. We send very good wishes to both couples.

INCH PARISH

The organising committee of Inch parish held another very successful table quiz in O’Rafferty’s Lounge on last Friday night where a large number of Tables participat­ed and raised a good amount of funds for the Inch Parish, well done to the Clare Family Gurteen who were the outright winners on the night. The Committee extend the sincere thanks to the O’Rafferty Family for the use of their premises, and also all those who took part in the quiz and all others who helped to make the night a great success.

GAA NEWS

Intermedia­tes hurlers – last gasp defeat. The intermedia­te hurlers resumed their championsh­ip campaign when they played Oylegate-Glenbrien on Sat last and despite leading in injury time they suffered defeat by the cruellest of blows when Oylegate snatched a late goal to win. Final score Craanford 2-13 Oylegate-Glenbrien 1-18.

Thoughts now turn to Kilanerin in football on Sunday, August 7, in Monamolin at 12.30 p.m. and hurling against Monageer in Camolin on August 13. The junior B’s play St Pat’s in football on Monday, August 8, at home at 7.30 p.m. and will play Kilrush in Craanford on Friday, August 12, at 7.30 p.m. Well done to the under-14 camogie girls on their spirited performanc­e in Ballygarre­tt on Sunday. Bann Gaels played football against Kilrush and won out on a score line BAllygarre­tt 2-06 Kilrush 2-04. They will now resume their hurling campaign against Gorey on Monday evening in a crucial decider.

Under-14 hurlers played Rapps in a high scoring game but came away defeated. C/F 4-10 Rapps 5-13. The minor hurlers Castle Craan Gaels played Ferns. Won well. Score 3-16 to 2-13. Well done to minor camogie on their win at the weekend and best of luck to under-10 and under-12 in minor tournament against Whitehall the junior camogie players will have to wait on their next championsh­ip match due to the success of the co senior panel at present as club player Una Sinnott is on both panels.

Congratula­tions to Catriona Murray who recently scored 2-9 with the Wexford Intermedia­te Ladies’ Football team against Louth. The team is now into the All-Ireland Quarter Finals on Sunday, August 14.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Team of the week goes to the under-8 hurlers who beat Oulart in Kilanerin on Wed last. Not every team can claim that scalp in hurling. Mixed fortunes on the football field for your adult teams, the first team defeated Clongeen on Saturday night in Belfield while the second team suffered a defeat at the hands of Craanford. The hurlers are due to play Our Ladys Island in Oylegate in Saturday evening at 5.45 p.m. See fixtures in the paper or on wexfordgaa.ie. Early nights will be needed by the younger ages as fixtures continue during this week’s Cúl Camp. Specially after the girls u8+10 blitz held last Saturday.

Kilanerin Tidy towns are hosting Dancing at the Cross Roads on Saturday, August 13, at 6.30 p.m. in Noel Murphys Kilanerin with a barbecue Pig on the Spit, Junior disco Live Music with Los WexicaNumb­ers Late Disco. Admission €10 adults children €5 all proceeds to Kilanerin Tidy Towns All are welcome to come along and join us.

FIELD DAY

A review of Kilanerin field day takes place on Wednesday, August 10, at 8 p.m. in the Community Centre to discuss how the field day went. A battery drill is missing since the field day if any of the workers picked it up on the day could they let Pat Jones know.

KILANERIN ICA

Well done to the ICA ladies who lauched the community tapestry at the Gaps Arts festival on Friday night last. It was completed over 10 months and depicts significan­t historical, cultural and sporting locations set in local scenery.
