Plans are being put together for a new and exciting Ryder Cup-style competition to be played on the same weekend as the cup itself. Competition format and team selection are still being thrashed out. Watch this space.

Our Monday ladies’ and gents’ open singles is well established by now and is proving very popular. The competition is scheduled to be on almost every Monday until the end of September. The entry fee is €5 for members and €10 for visitors, open to all membership categories.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in this competition then please bring them along. Where else would you get such great golfing facilities for €10? The next competition is on August 29.

The club singles/club fourball competitions are well under way by now and the finish date for the quarter-finals is August 21. There will be no extensions to the completion dates.

ROSSLARE LADIES

Determination, more determination and more...now that is the answer to golf. This is what our Niamh Byrne has applied to herself, her golf and her whole mental state.

Niamh is one of our best lady golfers in the club and unfortunately she badly injured her leg in July and it seemed like she was to be out of golf for the rest of the summer. But she was determined to play in open week or at least make a go at getting around the course.

Yes, she booked the buggy and made it around. Then encouraged by this, she set off again last Tuesday, with her leg bandaged up. Playing off a handicap of 10, she scored a whopping 44 points and is now down to eight. Well done Niamh, what a bit of determination does and my new motto!

On Monday, August 8, the I.L.G.U. ran a fun day, for girls of all abilities from the mid-Leinster area, in Rosslare Golf Club. Girls from eight different clubs came.
