Popular vet Pete Wedderburn wins Gorey planning appeal

-

POPULAR vet Pete Wedderburn will soon have a veterinary clinic up and running in Gorey after An Bord Pleanala ruled in favour of the development.

Pete had previously been granted permission by Wexford County Council for a change of use from retail to veterinary clinic at Unit 3, Knockmullen Retail Park,

However this was subsequently appealed to An Bord Plenala by Shane McGuckin, CC/O Ian Doyle, 16 Rose park, Wexford.

The issues raised in the appeal mainly related to a concern that the proposed use is incompatible with the purpose and definition of a retail park and secondly, concern regarding the potential conflict between animals visiting the clinic and customers visiting the retail park, in terms of noise, storage of medicines and waste management.

Having considered the appeal An Bord Pleanala upheld the decision made by Wexford County Council but with revised conditions.

In its report An Bord Pleanala said that the proposed development ‘would be an acceptable form of development at this location and would not undermine either the function of the retail park or the retail strategy for the area to any significant degree’.

The revised conditions included a stipulation that the clinic will not be used for the boarding of animals overnight or at the weekend, external signage will be agreed in advance, a waste management plan be submitted and agreed in advance of any works taking place and the provision of litter bins and refuse storage facilities.
