Becky goes full mile for cause close to her heart

- By AMY LEWIS

AVID walker Becky Murray stood up to her biggest challenge yet when she took on a 200 km trek around the Welsh coast in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

The eight day journey took the Cleariestown native around the coast of Anglesey Island, with several friends joining her along the way. Though the journey was certainly no walk in the park, Becky was thrilled to raise €1,011.66 for her chosen charity. On presenting the cash to staff from Crumlin recently, Becky was both surprised and delighted to receive a medal for her efforts.

Crumlin Children’s Hospital is a cause close to Becky’s heart as she spent some time there as a young child. Now 26 and in good health, she wanted to give something back to those who cared for her.

‘When I was a child I was there in a coma for a few days and the facilities and staff there made my recovery over three months much easier to go through,’ said Becky. ‘I can still remember them helping me make jigsaws when there to help keep my mind active and somewhat distract me.’

Becky took off on her walk as soon as she landed in Holyhead, walking up to 40 km a day. Though she is a regular walker, she said that the journey wasn’t without its difficulties. ‘My legs definitely felt it after!’ she said. Becky’s friends Eamonn Fortune and John O’Donoghue joined her for different sections of the walk.

According to Becky, she received great support from many local sponsors and is extremely grateful for all of their help.
