Draws weren’t wanted
IT WAS the type of weekend on the local G.A.A. front guaranteed to give the fixtures makers sleepless nights. With eleven county semi-finals out of twelve played from Friday to Sunday, their intention was to have five of the six adult football finals ready to roll on the weekend of October 8-9.
However, as it stands, only two will be able to go ahead following a series of draws.
There will be no delay in the Tom Doyle Supplies Senior football championship thankfully as Gusserane and Glynn-Barntown have set up a first-ever pairing in the decider.
However, the Ashdown Park/Amber Springs Hotels Intermediate final is a definite non-runner as both penultimate round games ended in deadlock on Saturday.
The Joyces Expert Intermediate ‘A’ final cannot proceed either, because Duffry Rovers must wait another while before finding out their opponents after Cloughbawn and Crossabeg-Ballymurn couldn’t be separated.
It didn’t get any easier in the Enniscorthy Farm Systems Junior grade as, though Monageer-Boolavogue advanced to the final, the second game in Bellefield on Saturday between Shamrocks and Oylegate-Glenbrien had to be abandoned due to the treacherous weather. At least the Enniscorthy Farm Systems Junior ‘A’ final can go ahead, with St. Martin’s and HWH-Bunclody to lock horns.
The other side of the Junior ‘B’ competition was delayed anyway, but Crossabeg-Ballymurn and Fethard still played out another draw!
With so many clubs also involved in hurling, the results have created several unwanted headaches.
