HWH-BUNCLODY CASTLETOWN 5-11 1-6 THERE WAS no disputing the outcome in Farmleigh recently when HWH-Bunclody comfortably overcame Castletown to clinch the ladies’ football Under-16 Division 2 championship crown.
Lisa Kelly scored the first point for the eventual winners early on, but they didn’t have matters entirely their own way in the first quarter.
Indeed, Castletown quickly equalised through Eimear O’Hagan before another point from Amy Wilson and an O’Hagan goal.
Britney Conroy hit back with an excellent goal for HWH-Bunclody and, after a spell of strong defending from both sides, Grace Marshall picked off the next Castletown point.
Amy Wilson and Rachel Murphy went on to swap points, leaving Castletown ahead at the break by 1-4 to 1-2.
However, HWH-Bunclody were on fire when play resumed, hitting 2-3 without reply to gain full control.
The goals came from Britney Conroy while Chloe Moynihan (two) and Rachel Murphy added the points, meaning the Castletown had it all to do despite another Amy Wilson point (3-6 to 1-5).
Eimear O’Hagan added what proved to be the last Castletown point before HWH-Bunclody finished on a very high note with another unanswered 2-5.
Aoife Mahon and Deirbhile Ní Cheallaigh were responsible for the goals, with the points coming from Maeve Sinnott (three), Ciara Carroll and Lisa Kelly.
