Lane wins it by a street

-

THE GRAND prize continued at Enniscorthy Dog Track on Thursday night and there was a good crowd in attendance to witness the local runners battle to keep the prize at home.

The Thomas Codd-trained Street Lane came back in as reserve in heat two and put in a powerful display of front running to lead and score by a wide margin in the joint best of night time of 28.54.

Another local, My Céilí, was also impressive in heat four, overcoming her difficult trap six draw to lead and hold off the challengers into the third bend to run out a snug winner in the end in a useful 28.97. The semi-finals this week will be a major draw and some more fast times are expected.

On the Monday night three finals were down for decision and the first of these, the Track Supporters’ Club A3/4 Tri-Distance, saw Ravens Jester, trained by John Kavanagh, score a good win, coming from off the pace to score well by the line in a useful 31.73 (575 yards).

The final of the A4/5 Bitch Stake went to the Mary Whelan (Enniscorthy)-owned Sorghaghtani who was completing a four-timer when breaking fast from her trap three box to record a good 29.01 run.

The Trackside Diner A8/9 final saw Drealistown Mama, owned by Tony and Larry Power (New Ross), give them their first win, and they and friends enjoyed the experience immensely.

Thursday, October 6, is a night to keep in your diary. It is grand prize final night with a top-class supporting card featuring three open class races over 550, 575 and 600 yards, followed on Monday, October 10, by the Red Mills Champion Unraced first round.

Considering the English Derby winner and the runner-up have started their careers at the track, who knows, we could see another derby winner.
