Big day out for Supporters’ Club

-

THE WEXFORD Racecourse Supporters’ Club, under the chairmanship of Martin McDonald, has a big day out planned for Saturday, October 8 - a tour of Noel Meade’s stables, followed by the afternoon meeting at Fairyhouse. They hope to fill a 50-seater coach and booking will be on a first come, first served basis.

The cost is €35 for members (card must be shown at Fairyhouse stiles), and a discounted €45 for non-members, including meal on way home at the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey. The coach picks up at Wexford racecourse at 7 a.m. and at the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, at 7.30 a.m.

Call or text Mary on 087-3828099 or e-mail her on info@wexfordraces.ie as soon as possible as not many places are left.

The visitors may expect to have a word with Palace East, Clonroche, rider Seán Flanagan who has been officially appointed stable jockey to Noel Meade following the recent retirement of Paul Carberry.

Seán has been acting as the stable number one for most of last year during Carberry’s injury absence and it is nice to see his talents recognised by one of the top men in Irish racing. He has been a professional since January, 2007, and has had a number of big winners.

He has long been associated with Wexford trainer Liz Doyle and he won the €67,000 Pierse Handicap Hurdle for her on Penny’s Bill, while he won the famous Thyestes Chase for Jimmy Mangan on Whinstone Boy.

Meade has several times expressed his admiration for Seán’s riding talents and now he has shown he really means it. Good luck to the Clonroche man in this phase of his career.
