RATHASPECK

Rathaspeck Golf Society held their 18-hole play-off on Sunday morning to decide who would claim this year’s Captain’s prize.

Qualifying had taken place the previous weekend , with the top 16 players carrying their scores forward to Sunday morning.

Our Captain, Ray Nolan, was unfortunately unable to attend the prize-giving afterwards due to illness, but last year’s Captain, Mick Farrell, was on hand to deputise and was ably assisted by the legendary Paul McGrath who kindly handed out the prizes.

Paul had played in the visitors’ category and taken first prize with a very respectable score , beating off some stiff competition from Mick Reade and Pat O’Connor.

Winner of the Captain’s prize with an excellent aggregate score of 108 was Mark Fenlon, closely followed by Packie Carty, three strokes adrift, and Val Amiranhov, a further four shots behind.

Mick Cleere took fourth place and John Redmond was fifth.

Mick Murphy won the gross prize , with Seamus Kenny and James Byrne taking the nines.

Mick Reade and Pat O’Connor picked up prizes for nearest the pins and as mentioned above, Paul McGrath won the visitors’ prize.

Congratulations to all prize-winners and all members who took part, and a special thanks to Paul McGrath, whom we hope to see playing next season as an honorary member of our society.

Finally, we all wish Ray a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the first tee very soon.
