Wayne to oversee mobile theatre fleet

-

AN experienced management professional from Gorey has been appointed by the world’s largest fleet of mobile operating theatres to develop its business in Ireland.

Wayne Simpson has been named as senior account manager by Vanguard Healthcare which works closely with hospitals and health services to reduce waiting lists and maintain patient flow. Wayne previously worked with other healthcare technology companies including Varian and Pfizer.

The company’s Irish-born chief executive Ian Gillespie recently said he was ready to deploy one or more units to Irish hospitals within weeks if they are needed.

“Living in Wexford, my family and I are only too aware that hospital waiting lists are at an all-time high and this is an opportunity for me to do something that will benefit patients, many of whom have been waiting for 18 months for their operation,’ said Wayne. He added that Vanguard is well-placed to be part of the solution for hard-pressed healthcare providers in Ireland.

‘ The mobile operating theatres are amazing, space-age vehicles which unfold to full-size when they arrive on site and are fully-equipped, just like a normal operating theatre,’ he explained. ‘ They have already helped NHS hospitals, and hospitals in other EU countries, to remove more than 235,000 patients from waiting lists.’

A mobile operating theatre can be placed close to a host hospital, where local surgeons and clinical teams can make use of it. This not only increases the surgical capacity at that hospital but it also keeps the patients within the Irish health care envelope. The theatres come complete with experienced theatre nursing staff.
