GAA NEWS

The under-8 hurlers were busy on Saturday September 24, taking part in the Rapparrees Blitz in dreadful weather. The club fielded two teams with one team winning two matches and drawing a third while the other team won one, drew one and lost one.

The under-10 hurlers went on to qualify for the shield final of the Bunclody Tournament, beating Mount Leinster Rangers by 3-5 to 1-4. The sides had been level at 0-2 apiece at half time but goals from Leon Doran, Charlie Donnelly and Bobby Codd combined with great defending from Evan, Oisín, Jack and Conor gave them a well deserved win.

The junior footballers are into the county final after beating Cushinstown by 1-6 to 1-5 in a thrilling game played in atrocious conditions. Leading by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break, Mick Sweeney gave them a great boost early in the second half, scoring a goal from a penalty awarded for a foul on Matthew Dunne. Cushinstown showed their character by replying quickly with a great goal. They followed this with a tidy point and sterling defending by our backs kept a point between the sides till the final whistle blew. The other semi-final between Oylegate and Shamrocks was abandoned due to the torrential rain and gales force winds.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

The first get together of the ‘Parent and Toddler Group’ will take place on Wednesday next, October 5, in Boolavogue Hall from 9.30 to 11.30 a.m. The group will meet each Wednesday and a nominal fee of €5 will be charged to help defray expenses. Refreshments will be served and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Maria at 087 7962161.

GAA LOTTO

There was no luck for anyone on Tuesday, September 13, as no one had picked 4, 10, 24 and 28, the numbers selected in the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lottery on that night. No one had even three of the numbers so the ‘match three’ prize was also unclaimed. For the next draw which will be held tonight, Tuesday September 27 at 9.30 p.m. in the clubhouse in Monageer, the jackpot has been increased to €7,600. Tickets can be had from all club members and local outlets.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

The Ministers of the Word on duty next weekend in St Cormac’s are Caroline Farrington at the Vigil Mass on Saturday night and Mark Gahan at the 11 a.m. Mass in Sunday, October 2. On Saturday evening, October 1, Noeleen Hennessy is the Eucharistic minister on duty while Monica Gahan will help distribute Holy Communion on Sunday morning.

SOCCER NEWS

The under-11s travelled to Rosslare Rangers and shared the spoils on a 2-2 draw. Our lads lead by 2-0 at half-time but aided by the gale blowing down the pitch in the second-half, Rosslare never took off the pressure and pulled back two goals to claim a league point.

Playing at home, the under-13s also drew, going 1-0 down to the visitors, Moyne Rangers, in the first half. Joe Ivory converted a penalty near the end of the game to leave the score at 1-1.

The under-15s had a huge win, 10-4 over Glynn-Barntown in which Ryan Farrell-Kenna was the ‘player-of-the-match’.

UNDERAGE GAA

Carnew under-12s had a very comprehensive victory over Bray Emmets (B) team when they met at the centre of Excellence Complex in Ballinakill on Saturday, September 17. This victory was never in doubt as Carnew came out with all guns blazing in the first half and had built up a substantial lead by half time.

Carnew, who had a big panel of players to choose from, gave everyone some game time and the players that came on were as clinical as their predecessors and so the scores kept ratcheting up

Sister Mary extends sincere thanks to all those who sent her good wishes, prayers, had mass offered, sent Get well cards during her recent surgery. She is happy to say that she is well on the road to recovery and hopes to resume her ministry in Carnew Community Care in the near future. Each of you will be remembered during the Evening Prayer of the church which the Sisters say together in their Oratory at evening time.

CLONEE LADIES FOOTBALL

The club has had a successful month, with our under-12s, under-14s and juniors winning county titles. Our Seniors were unlucky in the final, and our under-16s were unfortunate in their county semi-final. A huge thanks to all mentors, parents, family members, supporters and especially the committee members for help on county final days. Our juniors have also reached the league final, fixture tbc, and the seniors are in the league semi-final.
