Gorey Motor Factors first opened its doors 22 years ago, and in that time, Tommy has seen many changes in the trade. ‘In the early days, people tended to fix their cars, and as money was tight, we built up a very close relationship with customers keeping our costs down while keeping them on the road,’ he said.
Then scrappage schemes were introduced, and with more new cars around, many people weren’t able to fix problems themselves. The emphasis of the business grew towards supplying the garage trade, with a focus on fast delivery and price. ‘We saw an influx of larger suppliers competing for business which wasn’t a road we wanted to go down,’ said Tommy. ‘My idea was always to give good honest service to customers as they would look after you, something that I have found to be very true with the people of Gorey and surrounding areas.’
‘Over the past few years with the downturn in the economy we have once again seen the demand for good value and good service coming back to the market,’ he continued. ‘Every day I was being asked the same thing: “where can I get my car fixed without worrying that it might cost me a fortune?” This made me think further and thus inspired me to se up the latest addition to Gorey Motor Factors – Hyland’s Supply and Fit – which consists of a fully kitted out modern workshop with the latest equipment to cater for all types of modern car or van, from the old, right up to the present day.’
Two fully-qualified mechanics work full time at Hyland’s Supply and Fit, whose knowledge and expertise will ensure that the job is done right first time.
‘Our main aim is value for money and total transparency so our customers are kept informed about the job in hand, and also advised on any further problems that might arise,’ said Tommy. ‘ The customer will be given a detailed list, and a quote for costs, so they are aware of the situation at all times.’
