Death of retired St. Senan’s Hospital psychiatri­st Mrs. Ishbel Lee

THE death has taken place of Mrs. Ishbel Lee who was the Resident Medical Suprintend­ent at the former St. Senan’s Psychiatri­c Hospital, Enniscorth­y for many years and the widow of the late Wexford County Surgeon Mr. Angus Lee.

Mrs. Lee (nee Ross) of Clifton, Spawell Road, Wexford passed away peacefully last Friday, October 21 at the age of 89.

She is survived by her son Angus and his partner Helle; her daughter-in-law Ailish; her grandson Angus; her sisters Morag and Sheena; her brother-in-law Graham; her nephews and nieces; relatives,Theresa, neighbours and friends.

A member of the Presbyteri­an community in Wexford, Mrs. Lee was predecease­d by her husband Angus who was the chief surgeon at Wexford General Hospital for many years and also by her son Ross.

Her passing has caused sadness to her family and to her neighbours and many friends in Wexford.

A service of reception was held in the Presbyteri­an Church in Anne Street on Sunday evening at 7 pm. The funeral service was held on Monday afternoon with burial taking place afterwards in St. Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown.

Her family requested that instead of flowers, donations should be made, if desired, to the Wexford branch of the RNLI.

A native of Flint in north east Wales, Mrs. Lee qualified as a psychiatri­st. She took up duty in 1967 at St. Senan’s Psychiatri­c Hospital where she was the Resident Medical Superinten­dent. She continued working there for 25 years until her retirement from the hospital in 1992.
