Casey makes U-17 squad

-

WEXFORD YOUTHS Women’s player Orla Casey has been called up to Dave Bell’s Under-17 squad for the forthcoming UEFA European Championship qualifiers.

Ireland will play three games, starting against the Faroe Islands on Wednesday, October 26, with the second against Belarus on Friday, October 28, and the third on Monday, October 31, when they play Iceland.

Ireland will compete in Group 10 with the top two sides from each group going through to the next stage, and the four best third- placed sides joining them. All three games will be played in Turner’s Cross, Cork, where the men’s team played last night (Monday).

Orla joined Wexford Youths Women after coming through trials held by manager Gary Hunt pre-season, and she has been impressive since her arrival.

She made her league debut when coming on against UCD Waves in the first game of the season.

Orla went on to make her Champions League debut against ARF Criuleni and showed great maturity and energy in her display, a maturity made all the more impressive considering she had just turned 16 this summer.

Orla showed her goalscoring ability when she grabbed the winner in Youths’ 4-3 victory after coming on as substitute in Jackson Park a few weeks ago.

This is her first season competing in the Women’s National League and, going on her performances to date, Orla is definitely going to go from strength to strength and is already a star in the making.
