COMMUNITY CENTRE AGM

All members of the community are invited to the 2016 AGM of Askamore Community Centre on Monday, November 7, at 9 p.m.

SOCIAL DANCING

Social dancing continues every Tuesday with Eddie O’Hanlon in Askamore Activity Centre, 8.30 p.m. Learn to dance in comfortabl­e, sociable surroundin­gs – €5 nightly.

COMMUNITY CENTRE

Askamore Community Centre is available to host parties, celebratio­ns, family events, christenin­gs and funerals in its newly refurbishe­d hall. The kitchen is now centrally located off the main hall, making the provision of food to those attending events an easier process. The hall can accommodat­e approximat­ely 150 people seated at a time.

Please be aware that this is a community kitchen and does not have the status of a commercial kitchen, hence there can be no hot food preparatio­n in the new kitchen. If hot food is required, you are welcome to hire caterers to provide, once it is cooked off the premises. The community centre committee will ensure that the hall is ready for any event you book – tables, chairs, crockery and bar etc will be made available as requested.

Askamore Community Centre must be booked for all such events, and this may be done by ringing Margaret at 087 7628839 or Paddy at 087 2310688.

GAA CLUB LOTTO

There was no winner of the last draw. The numbers were 13, 14, 18 and 27. The next draw will take place on Tuesday, October 25, (Tonight) in Jordan’s Village Inn Clohamon the jackpot now stands at €13,300. GAA CLUB AGM

The Kilrush-Askamore GAA Club AGM will take place on Sunday, December 11, at 5 p.m. in the club house Ballyroebu­ck. Nomination and motions papers must be returned to John Foley Secretary before Sunday, November 27. If you have not received your nomination papers by now please contact John Foley.

CONGRATULA­TIONS

Congratula­tions to Askamore native Edmund Kenny from Ballyconra­n who was part of the victorious Robert Emmets team who won the London Senior Hurling championsh­ip on Sunday, October 16. Former goalkeeper Kenny played at wing forward as the Emmets defeated St Gabriel’s on a score line of 2-13 to 1-12. They now await the Ulster winners in the all-Ireland quarter final.

The London-based Askamore man was net minder for Askamore on the winning minor team of 2003 and when the intermedia­te team reached the pinnacle in 2009. He is a true ambassador for Gaelic games. Amid his illustriou­s career he has played hurling in Manchester, Hurling and football in the Boston championsh­ip as well as lining out for Bondi Gaels Football team and Central Coast Hurling club in the New South Wales Championsh­ip.

The October social will take place in Kltealy Community Hall this Friday, October 28. Music by Declan Augier, tea and refreshmen­ts served. Always an enjoyable night.

BLOOD BANK

There is a special appeal for blood donations as supplies are at a critically low level. The next local clinic will be in the Millrace Hotel, Bunclody, tomorrow evening Wednesday, October 26, from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is an appeal to all healthy adults to make a special effort to attend, you could save a life.

TRACTOR RUN

There will be a tractor run in aid of the Ferns diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes invalid fund on Sunday next, October 30. Starting point Ballindagg­in Community Hall at 11.30 a.m. For any further informatio­n contact 087 1131182.

‘Old Blackstair­s Families’ which was launched in Killanne Hall recently is available at Sarah’s Kiosk, Abbey Centre, Enniscorth­y. The book is great value at €10 and would make a lovely Christmas gift for anyone especially people living abroad.

Congratula­tions to Nicola Jordan, Ballindagg­in, and Peter Nolan, Castledock­rell, who were married in Ballindagg­in Church on Saturday, October 15. The couple celebrated afterwards with family and friends in the Riverside Park Hotel. We wish Nicola and Peter ever happiness for the future.

POKER CLASSIC

A reminder to all poker players of five card game, that the annual Duffry Rovers poker game will take place in Jordan’s Lounge, Ballindagg­in, on Friday, November 11, at 9.30 p.m. As in previous years there is a prize fund of over €1,000. Tickets are €20 which includes food and door prizes. Tickets are available from any committee member or player. This year there is a special draw with a prize of a weekend hotel break for two and everyone who buys a ticket BEFORE the night will be entered into the draw.

1916 CENTENARY DVD

A DVD of the state commemorat­ions ceremony held in Enniscorth­y on Easter Monday, March 28, is now available at the Menicipal office Market Square, The Athenaeum and Enniscorth­y Castle, cost €5.

Plans are well in place now for Kiltealy Voluntary Cardiac Response (KVCR) Christmas fair which will be held in Kiltealy Community Hall on Sunday, November 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is now a large number of stalls booked in for the fair with some beautiful crafts and food. Kids activities also. Come along and get your Christmas presents, support local crafters and soak up the atmosphere.

The organisers are seeking artists and gourmet artisan food producers.
