COURTOWN MURDER CHARGE REDUCED TO KNIFE POSSESSION

Saoirse trainees to show their talents

THE trainees at the Saoirse Centre at St Aidan’s are putting the final touches to their very first stage show.

St Aidan’s Services will present ‘Saoirse on Stage’ on Saturday, November 19, at 7 p.m. in Gorey Little Theatre, and they are looking forward to the support of the Gorey community on the night.

Saoirse, the training branch of St Aidan’s Services, offers a wide variety of training services to adults with intellectu­al dis- A DEFENDANT with a Courtown address had a charge of murdering Dale Creighton dropped at the Central Criminal Court last week.

Twenty-six-year-old James Reid, currently of Glen Aoibhinn, Courtown, was instead charged with possession of a knife at a footbridge in Tallaght almost three years ago.

He was one of seven defendants who were re-arraigned at the court last Tuesday morning. The murder charges against all seven were dropped, after five abilities. Programmes on offer include work skills and sampling, sports, dance, drama, arts and crafts, home management, computer skills, and personal developmen­t, among others. The centre also maintains links with other local agencies and services in order to provide opportunit­ies for its attendees for social inclusion and community involvemen­t.

As a result of a wonderfull­y well received guest appearance at last year’s Strictly of them pleaded guilty to Dale Creighton’s manslaught­er and their two co-accused pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

The five manslaught­er pleas were accepted by the State and the two co-accused had their pleas to lesser charges accepted.

Dale Creighton was assaulted on New Year’s morning 2014. He died in hospital the following day. The cause of his death was blunt force injury to his head and face.

James Reid was arraigned on a new count of having a knife, Come Dancing fundraiser for St. Aidan’s, the group took the decision to follow through with a stage production showcasing the various talents of the trainees. This project has been hugely beneficial in terms of both physical activity and creative expression.

Tickets, priced at €5, are available from St Aidan’s at Millands and the Saoirse centre at Gorey Business Park. A limited amount will also be available at the door. which had a blade or which was sharply pointed at the footbridge.

Dressed in a blue shirt and tie, he pleaded guilty to its possession.

Each accused also initially pleaded not guilty to violent disorder at the footbridge. However Jason Beresford of Coill Diarmuida, Ard a’ Laoi, Castlederm­ot, Co Kildare, later changed his plea and pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Another defendant, Aisling Burke of Beechpark, Collins- town, Co Westmeath, also pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Five of the defendants: Graham Palmer of Park Avenue, Portarling­ton, Co Laois; Ross Callery of Gortlum Cottages, Brittas, Co Dublin; David Burke of Beechpark, Collinstow­n; Gerard Stevens of Grosvenor Square, Rathmines, Dublin; and Jason Beresford, all pleaded not guilty murder but guilty to manslaught­er.

The defendants will be sentenced in December.
