Gorey Rangers duo shine for Leinster

-

TWO GOREY Rangers players, Dylan Fleming and Darragh Brooks, were heavily involved with the Leinster side which won the FAI Inter-Provincial Youth title in the A.U.L. Complex in Dublin recently, edging out Munster because of their head-to-head victory over them on day two.

Brooks, a loud and imposing goalkeeper who has been involved with the county Under-18 squad in the last couple of seasons, started the first game in goal.

With his side leading 2-1, the Rangers netminder made a superb save to keep Leinster ahead and it proved vital as his side took a 3-1 win.

Fleming, who spent this past Airtricity League Under-17 season with Cabinteely and played against Wexford Youths in Ferrycarrig in May, came on at half-time in the first game to help shore up the defence.

The centre-half, who has also been used as an imposing defensive centre-midfielder since his return to Gorey Rangers by their Youth team boss Joe McNulty, obviously made a huge impression by starting, as captain, in the 4-0 win over Munster in the second outing.

The management shuffled the team around in the final game to give all the lads a run. Leinster lost 2-1 to Ulster to finish level on points and goal difference with Munster.

The head-to-head victory over them a day earlier was enough to give Leinster their first Inter-Provincial Youth title since 2011. ALAN Browne has been appointed manager of the Women’s League Under-18 team which will participate in the FAI Inter League competition, kicking off in November away to Cork, with two more games in January.

All players interested should get in contact with Alan as soon as possible.
