1 NEW ALBUM: Castlebrid­ge singer-songwriter Shane Kenny will launch his new alb um ‘The Great Unknown’ at Fusion Cafe, Monck Street, Wexford, at 8.15 p.m. on Saturday, Novemb er 12. With special guests aplenty, admission is €5. ‘The Great Unknown’ follows on from the release of ‘Lost In the Madness of Crowds’ (2009) and ‘Eight Miles Out) (2014) and in the wake of three singles released through the American Musik and Film record lab el. Some of the acts Kenny has shared stages with include the Irish Tenors, Save Sharp (The Alarm), the Mulligan Brothers (USA), the 4 of Us, The Hot Sprockets, the Original Rudeboys, the Cab in Collective, Southern Tenant Folk Union, the Niall Toner Band, Declan O’Rourke and John Spillane. Shane says its going to b e an amazing night and he will b e joined b y some of Wexford’s b est musicians. It will feature b oth acoustic and full electric performanc­es of material taken from the new alb um as well as some well known tracks. Alb ums will b e availab le to b uy on the night. 2 ARTS CENTRE PLAY: ‘The Centre for Dying on Stage’ will b ring artists Jessica Foley, Marjorie Potiron, Lisa Hoffmann, Steven Randall and Alex Mirutziu together to perform an experiment­al work on Novemb er 12. Working on ideas surroundin­g life, death and disappeara­nce over the course of five weeks b etween Cow House Studios in Rathnure and the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dub lin, the five participat­ing artists have developed their ideas. These will b e performed live on stage at this upcoming show. Tickets cost €10 and this includes a 3 p.m. performanc­e at the Arts Centre and food and refreshmen­ts at 5 p.m. in the Cow House Studios.

3 BASKET WEAVING: A one day course at the Irish National Hertigae Park is aimed at b oth complete newcomers to the craft of b asket weaving and also those who have a b it of experience and would like to improve on their skills. During the Workshop you can expect to make a small b asket as well as covering the growing and preparatio­n of willows for working. 4 SWORD FIGHTING: Learn to sword-fight using 14th century weapons and fighting techniques under the watching eye of Goats Head Historical Fencing’s fully qualified and insured instructor­s at the Irish National Heritage Park. This one-day course aims to give participan­ts a b etter understand­ing of accurate fighting methods utilising plays and techniques from historical manuscript­s. All protection gear and weapons will b e provided for the day, however, a b asic fitness level is required. Course dates: Saturday, Novemb er 12, (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Sunday, Novemb er 13.) 5 CELTIC CHORISTERS CONCERT: Music lovers are invited to Christ Church, Gorey, on Friday, Novemb er 11, at 8p.m., as Gorey Men’s Shed presents the Celtic Choristers and guests in concert. Funds raised go to Kíla’s First Steps and Gorey Men’s Shed. The Celtic Choristers are a 40-strong male voice choir from Rathmines. They will b e accompanie­d b y pianist Lina ButerinaKi­va. Special guests include Michelle Delmar and the Templemich­eal Céilí Band. Tickets at €10 are availab le on the door or from French’s, Gwalia Stores, and Fran’s Shoe Repairs in Gorey.

6 HAZEL SHOW: Hazel O’Connor performs with the celeb rated Irish harpist Cormac de Barra, in a captivatin­g and intimate special performanc­e at the Presention Centre in Nunnery Road, Enniscorth­y. This powerful b lend of voices and musiciansh­ip b rings a classy touch of energy to Hazel’s vib rant performanc­e. Hazel b ecame prominent as an actress and singer in 1980 when playing the role of Kate in the film Breaking Glass, and performing its accompanyi­ng soundtrack. The show b egins at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday, Novemb er 12. Tickets: €20/€18. Call (053) 923 3000 to b ook.

7 REMEMBRANC­E SERVICE: The annual remembranc­e service will b e held in Christ Church, Gorey, on Sunday, Novemb er 13, at 10.30 a.m. Representa­tives of organisati­ons that serve the community will b e in attendance at the service which is always a special occasion. The Arklow Shipping Silver Band and Gorey Pipe Band will b e there once again to provide the music. As the late Canon Aidan Jones was due to b e the preacher for the service this year, he will b e especially remembered, as will the Irish Coast Guard who lost a memb er on active duty earlier this year. The service of Irish soldiers on UN duty in Jadotville will also b e included this year. All are very welcome to attend.
