IFA BRANCH AGM

The local IFA branch will hold their AGM in the soccer clubhouse in Boolavogue on Monday night next, November 14 at 8.30 p.m. All members and intending members are invited to attend and James Murphy, the Regional Chair, will be in attendance on the night.

CHAMPION HURLER

All his many friends in Boolavogue thought Brian O’Loughlin, Ballycarri­geen, son of Cormac and Mary, looked splendid on the RTÉ GAA All Stars presentati­on last week. He had been selected as one of the Lory Meagher Champion 15 for his display in the Lory Meagher Championsh­ip this year. Playing for Sligo, he scored three great points in the all-Ireland final on Saturday, June 4.

Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club would like to send heartiest congratula­tions to Brian O’Loughlin whose performanc­es with Sligo this year earned him a place on the Lory Meagher Cup

Boolavogue’s Foróige club organised a very successful Hallowe’en party for children in Boolavogue hall on Sunday, October 30. There was great fun and games at the party which ran from 2 p.m. till 5 p.m.

THANK YOU

The organisers of the céilí and Set Dance evening held in the Upton Court Hotel in aid of the Wexford branch of the Irish Kidney Associatio­n, would like to thank all those who helped make is a tremendous success. In excess of €3,300 was raised for this very worthy cause.

ICA NEWS

The Boolavogue ICA guild will be meeting tonight, November 8 in Boolavogue Hall at 8 p.m. and new members are very welcome to join.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

On Wednesday, October 26, the Boolavogue Parent and Toddler Group held their Hallowe’en party and the toddlers dressed up as pumpkins, ladybirds, skeletons and scary witches. Many thanks to all who brought along cakes and confection­ary. The group will meet again tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9, at the usual time.

The under-11 boys were at home to St Leonards on Saturday last, November 5, and brilliant goalkeepin­g by the visitors’ keeper denied our lads three or four certain goals in the first 20 minutes. But it was St Leonards who scored first, rattling the net halfway through the first half and maintainin­g the lead right through to half-time. Shortly after the resumption, Jack Ellix headed home the equaliser shortly followed by a great James O’Leary goal to give our lads the lead. Bobby Codd made sure of the points with a third goal which means that the team now have four wins and one draw so far.

The under-13s also won, ann emphatic 5-0 defeat of Rosslare Rangers. First on the score sheet was Sam Tyrrell who sprinted on to a splendid pass from Sophie Kirwin and finished it perfectly. Tristan Whelan stretched this lead before the break and Éanna Swords in goal was only troubled by one dangerous attack and managed to keep a clean sheet without much difficulty. Joe Ivory converted a penalty early in the second half to leave our lads 3-0 ahead and Bobby McKeown made it 4-0 with fifteen minutes remaining. Fionn Walsh who had been rock steady in defence moved forward into the attack at this stage and was rewarded with a goal near the end of a great return to form by this promising

The jackpot in the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto draw is still climbing and has now reached €7,900. No one had all four numbers drawn on October 25. The numbers were 15, 19, 25 and 27 and John Fenlon, who had three of them collected the €160 match-three prize. The next draw will take place tonight, Tuesday, November 8, at 9.30 p.m. in the New Clubhouse in Monageer.

The next meeting of Tombrack ladies club takes place on Thursday, November 10, at 8 p.m. The ladies club resumed on Octo- ber 13 after the summer break. It was an evening of chat and the welcome cuppa after. Hostess on the evening was Denise Warren. The raffle prize winners were Mary Bolger and Mary Grennan.

FERNS ACTIV8

Ferns Activ8 events continue this Thursday night with a free talk on Nutrition & Health, to take place in The Courtyard at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday night (November 10). It will be delivered by Aoife and Neasa of the Bodhi Clinic in Gorey, and topics will include Top Tips for improving your health & wellbeing. All are welcome. Thursday night will also see the floodlight­s on in the GAA grounds from 7.30 p.m. onwards, for the customary walking/jogging/running laps of the track there.

CROSS-COUNTRY ‘MUCK RUN’

There’s great fun and a bit of messing in store too at a cross-country ‘Muck Run’ to take place in Tombrack this coming Sunday (November 13). The route will be approx. 5km long and will include sections through bog and across river (with alternativ­e options available for anyone who wants to try stay clean and dry instead). People are free to run, jog, run, or even crawl their way along. Registrati­on begins at 1 p.m., the event starts at 1.30 p.m., and the registrati­on fee is €10 for adults or €5 for under-18s. GAA LOTTO

The jackpot in the Ferns GAA lotto is now up to €13,600 and the next draw takes place in The Thatch tonight (Tuesday). Tickets at just €2 each are available from all the usual sources. They can also be bought online until 9 p.m. at www.fernsgaa.com/lotto Jone’s native parish. The burial was in the grounds of the church there.

FAREWELL TO PRINCIPAL

On Friday, October 21, a farewell party was held in Monageer School to say a final public goodbye to our departing Principal, Andy Hanrahan. In the presence of qa large crowd of parents and pupils and after refreshmen­ts three presentati­ons were made to Andy as tokens of appreciati­on for his seven very successful years as Principal in our school.

The presentati­ons were from thhe staff, the BOM and the parish, from the pupils and from the parents’ associatio­n. Very positive and well deserved tributes were paid to Andy for his excellent work as teacher and Principal over the years 2009 to this September and all wished him well in his new appointmen­t as Principal in Stradbally, Co Laois.

MONAGEER SCHOOL STAFF

With the arrival of our new Principal, Eleanor Kehoe from Ballymitty National School on Monday, October 23, the staff of Monageer school is now as follows; Eleanor Kehoe, Principal, teaches fifth and sixth classes, Mary Murphy is the teacher for third and fourth classes, Karen Murphy is in charge of second class, our First Communion group, Ruth Walsh takes first class, while senior infants is under the direction of Eimear Ryan with Depuyty Principal Sinéad O’Hanlon teaching junior infants.

Evelyn Owen is full time learing Support teacher, while Siobhán Walsh is Resource teacher for Monageer and Monamolin schools. Ann Mackey is our secretary and Lar Daly is caretaker. Joan O’Toole is school cleaner. The numbers of pupils this year is 160.

CHURCH NEWS

RENEWAL OF MARRIAGE VOWS – Our Pastoral Council has arranged that this special Mass was be celebrated on Sunday, November 6, in our local church at 10 a.m. is Many married couples took part and renewed their marriage vows. A text of the renewal was provided and couples only read aloud from their places in church with the other couples taking part.

VISTING DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY TO PREACH – The Bishop has given permission for this Congregati­on of Sisters and also the Pallotine Fathers to visit our diocese this year, as other Congregati­on and orders have been doing in previous years. They come to preach at weekend Masses and to request financial support for their ministry. So last weekend a Sister from the Daughters of Charity preached at the 8 p.m. Mass in Boolavogue and also the 10 a.m. Mass in Monageer. On the weekend of November 12/13 another Sister from the same group will preach at our 7 p.m. Mass and at the 11 a.m. Mass in Boolavogue.
