Coal stolen from home of woman with disabled son
THIEVES stole two 40kg bags of coal from the home of a Wexford woman who needs to keep her house warm to keep her disabled son Conor from catching pneumonia.
Maria Sofola Doyle said she believed the thieves knew her because the raid on her house at Radharc na Fhiaigh took place under the noses of her normally-alert dogs.
‘We have two cars parked right where the path is to the garden which is not very big so they would have had to have known there was something in the back garden and there wasn’t a peep out of the dogs,’ she said.
‘I’ve a disabled son in the house who needs to be warm all the time or he could get pneumonia and die, so thanks a bunch, I hope you’ll be warm,’ she said of the thieves, who believes carried out the raid between 1 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. last Tuesday (November 15). ‘These were heavy bags of coal, so they must have had a car nearby,’ she said.
Maria said that for some reason, the raiders had left behind half a bag of coal, which meant she had enough coal to tide her over until pay day.
She said she had received many offers of coal following her posting of what had happened on social media, but said there were other people more needy than her.
‘I just wanted to say thanks to all who commented or offered to help me, you’re all so good and I appreciate each and every one of ye, but if I can ask if ye can donate something to the SVdP or similar loads of people in the area could do with a little cheer coming up to Christmas,’ she said in a post.
