Gorey Writers publish first collection of works

-

AFTER ten years, Gorey Writers Group has finally published its first collection of works.

Eighteen members have contributed poetry, prose, and haiku to ‘Fledgelings’ which was launched to an appreciative crowd in Gorey Library recently.

Several pieces contained in the book were read by their creators to around 90 people at the reception. They enjoyed food and drink as copies of ‘Fledgelings’ were snapped up.

Bernie Walsh, who runs the group, said that the members were very excited to see the finished product. ‘ There was a fantastic atmosphere,’ she said. ‘ They were thrilled with the book.’

Only 300 copies have been printed by Boland Press, and 130 sold at the launch. It is available for sale at €10 in Zozimus Books in The Book Café, Gorey.

Zozimus proprietor John Wyse Jackson was delighted to launch ‘Fledgelings’ on the evening, and the gathering also heard from Cllr Malcolm Byrne who congratulated everyone involved. The production of ‘Fledgelings’ was supported by an Arts and Amenity grant from Wexford County Council.

Thanks went to all who attended; the team at the Library; Wexford County Council; and all who contributed to the evening. Gorey Writers Group, which celebrated its tenth birthday on the evening, meets in Gorey Library every second Thursday at 7.15 p.m., with the next meeting on November 17. New members are most welcome.
