Recently-opened Wexford country house makes it into Michelin Guide

-

DESPITE opening its doors only a little over a year ago, Clonganny House in North Wexford, has already made its mark.

Rated as 5 Star by the AA, Clonganny has received 2 AA Rosettes for its food, is a member of Hidden Ireland and received a ‘Best of the Best’ rating from Georgina Campbell in her Ireland Guide.

And now it has been included in the 2017 Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland.

The Georgian gem on the outskirts of Ballygarrett offers luxury accommodation in courtyard rooms. Clonganny also opens its doors to non-residents for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings.

It is perhaps no surprise that the accolades are pouring in.

For Philippe and Brona Brillant, who own Clonganny, this is the culmination of many years in business and in the industry.

Philippe is a highly-experienced chef who trained and worked in numerous 3 Star Michelin establishments across the world, including the renowned Restaurant Lasserre in Paris, and with the legendary Chef Joel Robuchon.

The couple ran a B&B in the upmarket town of Henleyon-Thames in the UK, where Philippe also had a restaurant and bakery which supplied Heston Blumenthal, amongst others.

Though they are not native to the area, they have strong connections. Brona’s great-grandfather was born in Ballygarrett and she has extended family across the county, where she spent much time as a child.

For Philippe, the move to Wexford has been a delightful opportunity to explore and source the best of Irish and local produce to showcase in his dishes.
