Large turnout at Craanford remembranc­e

THERE was a large turnout at the annual celebratio­n of remembranc­e in Craanford recently.

The service remembered all the men of the area who had taken part and lost their lives in World War One and World War Two.

The event began with Mass followed by a parade to the graveyard where wreaths were laid at the War Monument.

At the monument a list of the fallen men was read out: ‘We are gathered here to remember and honour the men who gave their lives for world peace. Joseph Bass, Carrigbeg, John Breen, Clonamona, Patrick Cullen, Craanford, Michaael Cush, Boley, Peter Cush, Boley, Michael Keenan, Glandoran, Michael Kinsella, Bolacreen, Patrick Kirwan, Bolacreen, John Murphy, Ballingarr­y, Thomas Pinions, Tombay, Thomas Tapley, Ballingarr­y.

‘Let us also remember all those who took part in the war especially Fr Thomas Moran of Enniscorth­y who served as chaplain from 19141918. He later served as curate in Monaseed from 1925 to 1931.

‘We remember Jim Cush, Ballydarra­gh, Tom Doyle, Banntown, Aidan Finn, Ballyregan, Willie Keenan, Glandoran, Joe Kirwan, Bolacreen, JOhn Kirwan, Bolacreen, John Tyrrell, Ballydulle­n who lost the sight in both eyes in 1916 at the age of 18 years and Pat (The Corporal) Whelan, Bannpark.

‘We also remember those from the area who lost their lives in World War Two - George Crowley, Ferns, James Gordon, Killowen and James Rickerby, Monaseed.’
