25th anniversary of Hollow Rangers win
November 1985
The 25th anniversary of Hollow Rangers’ (Marshalstown) victory in the county junior hurling final of 1960 was celebrated at a dinner dance, attended by more than 250 people, at Murphy Floods Hotel in Enniscorthy on Sunday night.
Still hale and hearty, all fifteen players and three substitutes were present, and were presented with inscribed tankards to mark the occasion.
They were Jim Kinsella (captain), Myles Lambert (goal), Larry Byrne, Billy Ryan, Tom Lambert, Sean Deegan, Johnny Creane, Jack Bolger (Co. Councillor), Seamus Kelly, Willie Kelly, Larry Greene, Michael Doyle, Johnny Walsh, Dave Fenlon, Michael Dee (N.T.), Nick Lambert, Tom O’Leary, and Michael Kinsella.
A presentation was also made to Mrs Kathleen Roche, wife of the late Mr Myles Roche, The Milehouse, in remembrance of the major contribution he had made to the Hollow Rangers club and to gaelic games in Marshalstown parish.
Mr Patsy Greene, who was a member of the victorious team, received a further presentation in appreciation of his dedicated work as chairman of the club.
The anniversary dinner was organised by Mr Seamus Deegan, who presided at the function, along with Mr Jerry Doyle and Mr Jim Bolger.
Hollow Rangers, with practically the same team, went on to win the intermediate hurling championship the following year, and were then considered extremely unlucky to be defeated in the county senior hurling semi-final in 1962. They also won the county junior football title in 1965.
