25th anniversar­y of Hollow Rangers win

The 25th anniversar­y of Hollow Rangers’ (Marshalsto­wn) victory in the county junior hurling final of 1960 was celebrated at a dinner dance, attended by more than 250 people, at Murphy Floods Hotel in Enniscorth­y on Sunday night.

Still hale and hearty, all fifteen players and three substitute­s were present, and were presented with inscribed tankards to mark the occasion.

They were Jim Kinsella (captain), Myles Lambert (goal), Larry Byrne, Billy Ryan, Tom Lambert, Sean Deegan, Johnny Creane, Jack Bolger (Co. Councillor), Seamus Kelly, Willie Kelly, Larry Greene, Michael Doyle, Johnny Walsh, Dave Fenlon, Michael Dee (N.T.), Nick Lambert, Tom O’Leary, and Michael Kinsella.

A presentati­on was also made to Mrs Kathleen Roche, wife of the late Mr Myles Roche, The Milehouse, in remembranc­e of the major contributi­on he had made to the Hollow Rangers club and to gaelic games in Marshalsto­wn parish.

Mr Patsy Greene, who was a member of the victorious team, received a further presentati­on in appreciati­on of his dedicated work as chairman of the club.

The anniversar­y dinner was organised by Mr Seamus Deegan, who presided at the function, along with Mr Jerry Doyle and Mr Jim Bolger.

Hollow Rangers, with practicall­y the same team, went on to win the intermedia­te hurling championsh­ip the following year, and were then considered extremely unlucky to be defeated in the county senior hurling semi-final in 1962. They also won the county junior football title in 1965.
