November 2002

-

The rapidly-expanding Sam McCauley chain of pharmacies has announced the creation of 35 new jobs in the Wexford region.

Announcing details of the jobs boost, group director Peter McCormack said group turnover is projected to grow from €45 million in 2003 to more than €100 million by 2008.

He said that the impending opening of a new store on North Main Street in Wexford in the first week of December would bring to 100 the total number of people employed by Sam McCauleys in County Wexford.

An extra 16 jobs are being created in the new store on North Main Street, with further new jobs coming to Enniscorthy.

Mr McCormack also announced the opening of a new 15,000 sq. ft. support office and warehouse in early 2003 at Ardcavan, to cater for present and future expansion.

He said the company – now the largest Irishowned pharmacy chain – plans to add several more major stores to its portfolio in the coming years.

Other recent expansions have included a new 5,500 sq. ft. store in Tralee, and new stores in the past year in both Kilkenny and Waterford.

The company’s Enniscorthy branch will be re-locating to new premises in Court Street, expanding to over 10,000 sq. ft. including retail area, beauty salons, and an adjoining medical centre, while they will also launch a state-ofthe-art beauty spa in Greystones, Co. Wicklow.

The company has expanded from a single outlet in Enniscorthy in 1991, employing 15 people, to 11 outlets nationwide so far, with total staff employed to increase to more than 500 by June 2003.

The organisation was founded by Gerry McCauley, the father of current Managing Director, Sam McCauley. Other group directors include Eric Jenkins, another Wexford native, whose family had a large retail outlet on North Main Street in Wexford for many years.
