THE FIELD: John B Keane’s classic stage play ‘The Field’ will be brought to life by Craanford Drama Group this week. The play, a dark story that burrows deep into the heart of rural Ireland in the 1960s, was first produced in 1965, and has captivated audiences for many years. It was immortalis­ed in a 1990 film starring Richard Harris as ‘The Bull’ McCabe, as well as John Hurt, Sean Bean, and Brenda Fricker. The Craanford group has been working hard on the production for the past three months, under the direction of Brendan Doyle. The large cast includes: Pat Berney, Cormac Loughlin, Tony Hickey, Margaret Nolan, Brendan Doyle, Paul Breen, Eoin Mc Mahon, Ger Doran, Stephen Hayes, Maria McCann, Mick Sinnott and Margaret Doyle, as well as young cast members Richie Doyle, Kerrie O’Sullivan, Dearbhla Hayes, Conor Hayes and Aoife Earle. ‘The Field’ will be staged at 8 p.m. nightly in Craanford Community Centre on Wednesday, November 30; Thursday, December 1; and Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4. LISA HANNIGAN: Lisa Hannigan will play the National Opera House Wexford on December 2 as part of her Irish tour in support of her album ‘At Swim’. As Lisa’s third and arguably most bewitching album, ‘At Swim’ has received universal critical acclaim since its release last month. Produced by Aaron Dessner, the record follows the double-platinum, Mercury and Choice Music Prize -nominated debut ‘Sea Sew’, and 2011’s ‘Passenger’ which reach number one in the charts and earned Lisa a second Choice Music Prize nomination. Along with new songs, Lisa will also play some of her muchloved tracks. Tickets cost €25 and the concert kicks off at 8 p.m.

FERNS PARISH CONCERT: St Aidan’s Church in Ferns is holding its annual Christmas concert on Wednesday, November 30. The line up this year is one that is sure to excite with legendary singers Sandy Kelly and Declan Nerney on the bill. They will be supported by the very popular Teresa and the Stars. This is one of the main parish fundraiser­s and is always very well supported. Tickets which cost €10 are available from Ferns Parish Office.

DAVID NORRIS TALK: Senator David Norris will be welcomed to Wexford Library this Thursday December 1 to speak on the topic ‘The Road to Equality’. His talk coincides with an exhibition of the same name which will is on display in Wexford Library until December 9. Both the talk and the exhibition will reflect on the historic journey to the Yes vote in the 2015 marriage referendum. The talk will take place from 7 p.m. and booking is essential.

ONE-ACT DRAMA: Coolgreany Amateur Dramatic Society presents two one-act plays at St Mogue’s Hall, Inch, on Tuesday, November 29, and Thursday, December 1, at 8.30 p.m. First up is its own production of ‘The Quiet Land’ which it will bring to the all-Ireland finals in Dundrum in December. The play, written by Malachy McKenna, stars Ned Dempsey and Ken Moroney, and is directed by Sally Stevens. Also on the bill, The Rasper Players will present ‘Me and My Friend’ directed by Stephen Acton. Tickets at €10 are available from 089 4283763.

SANTA’S ENCHANTED CASTLE: Give the little ones a treat this year with the ultimate magical adventure at Santa’s Enchanted Castle in Enniscorth­y.
