Cool running on the Quays

- By DAVID TUCKER

Pictures: Ger Hore IT has been cold outside, but the wonder of winter has been packing in the crowds under cover on the Quays in the shape of the very popular Wexford on Ice.

Wexford on Ice runs until January 8 and has proved a fantastic addition to Wexford’s Christas festivities, attracting both young and old eager to try on a pair of skates to show some cool moves and for those new to them, to perhaps nurse a few bruises as well.

For the nervous skaters there are always the stability aids, but for most - including a few budding Torvill and Deans - it was a case of getting out on the ice and putting your best foot forward, and there were plenty of best feet on show.

This year saw sensory family skate sessions, which take place every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to give those who wouldn’t normally get the chance to go skating their very own special session. Music and lighting is turned down for the sessions.

Wexford on Ice is available for group bookings, kids birthday parties, youth groups and staff social outings.

Have fun on the ice and then enjoy hot chocolate with marshmallows and muffins in the warmth of the ice cafe.

The last skating will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

The ice rink will be closed on Christmas Day, with the last skate of the year taking place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

If you are looking for a fun family day out, or something to pass the time with friends, the Wexford People Wexford on Ice is the most magical place to skate this season.
