Housing staff are praised
WEXFORD County Council’s housing staff were praised at last week’s Gorey Municipal District committee meeting for their work with people who are homeless.
Cllr Malcolm Byrne said many of the staff go above and beyond the call of duty helping provide people with emergency accommodation.
‘ The housing section will not allow people to be left on the streets,’ he said.
Housing officer Liz Hore was presenting her last housing report to the councillors before she replaces Padraig O’Gorman in the role of district manager in Enniscorthy Municipal District in the new year.
The councillors wished her well and paid tribute to her work in housing.
Cllr Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin said found her ‘approachable and helpful’ while Cllr Mary Farrell thanked her, saying she found her ‘exceptionally helpful.’
Cllr Joe Sullivan said that within an hour of approaching the department with someone who was homeless, they had the person in a B&B.
Cllr John Hegarty also paid tribute to Liz, while Cllr Pip Breen thanked her for her time and courtesy. ‘You had a very, very difficult job,’ he said.
Cllr Anthony Donohoe also thanked her for her help and wished her well on her move to Enniscorthy.
Cllr Robbie Ireton said he found Liz very easy to work with and said she and her department had a very thankless job.
