Craanford First Responders get down to business with training

-

THE new Craanford Monaseed Cardiac First Responder volunteers spent six hours last Saturday practising their basic life support skills in a training session recognised by the Irish Heart Founadation.

The 20 or so volunteers will soon be ready to ‘go live’ where they are linked in with the national ambulance service, and are on stand by to offer a vital first response before an ambulance arrives, when a person suffers chest pain, stroke, or cardiac arrest in the local area.

Chairperson Noeleen Kenny said that bystander CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. ‘So by having volunteer first responders in the local area of Craanford Mona- seed, people can feel reassured that their chances of a better outcome are improved, and the chain of survival is greatly strengthened,’ she said.

Saturday’s training was facilitated by Noeleen Kenny, resuscitation training officer; Pauline Fitzhenry, ACLS and BLS instructor; and Ray Lacey, advanced paramedic and ACLS, BLS instructor.

A defibrillator was very generously donated to the group by the family of Trudi Sinnott, but some other pieces of equipment are needed before the group goes live in the coming weeks.

A huge thank you was sent to all the volunteers and instructors for giving up their time.
