SOCCER NEWS

A very good weekend for the underage teams last weekend with plenty of goals and excitement. The under-13s were at home to a very skilled Campile side who had around 80% of the possession in the first half. Despite this pressure and thanks to the excellence of Sophie Kirwin between the posts, they kept denying the visitors any score. Our lads were dangerous on the break and after hitting some shots inches wide and hitting the upright, it was inevitable that they would score and Christophe Jordan-Kelly and Sam Tyrrell had them 2-0 close to the break. Just before half-time, Campile were awarded a penalty and went into the second half trailing 2-1.

Superb play from Matt Gahan at mid-field and Éanna Swords in defence kept a supply of quality passes to the forwards and Bobby McKeown found the net twice from Joe Ivory assists. Joe himself also scored, tucking away a great free kick. But Campile never gave up and with only minutes remaining were only trailing by one goal. Sophie Kirwin kept her cool and marshalled the defence faultlessly to give our lads a very well deserved 5-4 win. Man of the match was Matt Gahan with Joe Ivory, Sophie Kirwin and Bertie Finn outstanding from start to finish.

The under-15s were away to Adamstown and also won a high scoreing thriller. Thanks to a hat-trick from Ryan Milling and a smasher from Cormac Walsh, they won by 4-3. As with the under-13s, the keeper was critical in making sure the team won and Ryan Farrell-Kenna between the posts was outstanding from start to finish. Adam Meehan, who starred, was the player-of-thematch.

The under-11s were away as well and travelled to Caim, coming home with the points on an 8-2 scoreline. Bobby Codd with two goals and a goal each from Kieron Murphy and Seán Óg Gilbride had them 4-0 ahead at half-time. Michael Kehoe and Mossy Walsh were outstanding in defence and Evan Dunne at mid-field put in classy passes throughout. Alex Keegan and Jack Ellix with two each left the our lads 8-2 ahead in the end.

Séamus Doran, manager of the under-12 girls’ team was delighted with his charges who put five goals past Seaview without conceeding a score in a cup match.

On Sunday, January 29, the Ladies’ team travelled to Cushinstown and shared the spoils on a 1-1 final score. Lorraine Fortune was the goal scorer while Michelle D’Arcy was the player of the match. Meanwhile the men’s ‘B’ team hosted Cushinstown in Luke Foran Park in a Wexford cup clash. Mark Walsh gave our lads the lead only to have Cushinstown pull one back shortly afterwards through a converted penalty.

Meanwhile the men’s ‘B’ team hosted Cushinstown in a Wexford Cup game at home in Luke Foran Park. Despite the visitors playing a few divisions higher, the score was 0-0 at half time. Early in the second half, Mark Walsh put us ahead only to have Cushinstown draw level with a converted penalty. In the end the visitors’ class showed throught and they ran out 1-4 winners.
