AwArd- gAstro Pub, Kilmore winning tel: 053 9135982 SUSIE DOYLE, the proprietor of award-winning gastro pub Mary Barry’s in Kilmore, is no stranger to hard work having grown up in Carne where she picked spuds on on her fathers Ray Doyle’s farm and did horse-riding with the legendary Miss Margaret Ellard.
Susie’s first introduction to the tourism industry came while working alongside her mother, Ronnie Doyle, in the Beach Holiday Park and she also worked in the Lighthouse Bar where she developed a love of the pub business.
She worked with Denis Asple Accountants in Wexford town before travelling to Australia where she realised that life down under was not for her. She returned to Wexford and bought the former Morrissey’s Bar, reconstructing and refurbishing the premises inside and out and developing it into the famous Mary Barry’s of today.
Last year alone, the pub/restaurant won awards for Best Gastro Pub in County Wexford, a Wexford Tourism Award, Best Bar Food 2016 and South East Radio Best Chef and Bar Food Award with the help of talented chef Nicky Cullen. Seafood is a speciality in the pub which is conveniently situated a stone’s throw from the fishing village of Kilmore Quay.
Susie said the continuing success of Mary Barry’s is down to a great team of staff and also to the support of her partner Alec Scallan to whom she is getting married in May - the couple have three children, Annie, Joe and Rosie.
Susie paid tribute to the Mary Barry’s manag- er Diane and staff who are great with customers and make everyone feel at home.
There is always a warm welcome and a warm fire waiting for people who cross the threshold of Mary Barry’s which is blessed with being located in a picturesque and traditional location favoured by tourists and locals.
The pub serves food seven days a week from Monday to Sunday and there is live music for the entertainment of customers every weekend.
