Big guns march on

-

THE big guns are still dreaming of Wexford Volkswagen Cup success as the favourites came through their third round ties unscathed on Sunday.

Holders North End United breezed past Ajax Athletic ‘B’, winning 8-0 thanks to a John ‘Rocky’ Fenlon hat-trick and goals from Gary Byrne, Paul Murphy, Dale Flynn, Kyle Dempsey and Andy Moore.

Premier Division pacesetters Gorey Rangers overcame fellow top flight outfit Bunclody 4-0 with goals for Mark Woods, Eric Quinn and Joe Bolger (two).

Shamrock Rovers were too strong for Ballymurn and ran out 5-1 winners, with Stephen O’Brien (two), Seán Wildes, Dan Carroll and Martin McKeown scoring for the Enniscorthy outfit.

Courtown Hibs had too much firepower for Cushinstown, with Colin O’Brien helping himself to a hat-trick in their 6-2 triumph. Leighton Gleeson, Glen Hughes and Colum Kinsella also got on the scoresheet for the north county side, with Nicky Sinnott and Luke O’Connor replying for Cushinstown.

New Ross Celtic were made to work hard by St. Cormac’s, but goals from Eoin Cashin and Dylan Wickham saw them eke out a 2-1 win.

Paul Brennan, Craig Travers, Ross Reardon and Matty Kavanagh (two) got on the scoresheet for Gorey Celtic as they saw off the challenge of Wexford Bohs 5-2, with Seán Pailing replying with a double for the Wexford town outfit, one from the penalty spot.

Last season’s runners-up Kilmore United ran out 4-2 winners away to New Ross Town, with their goals coming from Graham Healy (two), Stevie Cousins and Alan Colgate.

Division 1 high-flyers Bridge Rovers saw off North End United ‘C’ 3-1 with goals from Niall Murphy (two) and Kevin Murphy.

Corach Ramblers hit Raheen for six, winning 6-1 thanks to a John Staples hattrick, a Niall Harney double and a Darren Sinnott strike.

James Coleman bagged a double for Tombrack as they overcame Adamstown 3-1, with Bob Newe getting their other goal and Ian White replying for Adamstown.

Gary O’Leary grabbed all three goals for St. Joseph’s as they recorded a 3-1 win over Boolavogue, with Bernard Maguire replying.

Forth Celtic fought back from a goal down at the break to earn a 2-1 win in Crossabeg. Jamie Creane had given the hosts the lead but Darren Jordan levelled matters with a 25-yard free-kick before Darragh Rossiter grabbed the winner. Johnny Rogan, Aaron Corish, Ramesl Banham and Stephen Redmond got the goals for Rosslare Port as they beat All Blacks 4-2.

Meanwhile Killenagh Wanderers progressed without kicking a ball as they were handed a walkover from Duncannon ‘B’. Adult fixtures Sunday, March 5 Wexford Volkswagen Cup third round: Moyne Rangers v.
