NINE NIGHTS OF TOP RATE DRAMA

NINE nights of top class drama are on the bill as Gorey Little Theatre Group hosts the 61st annual three-act South Leinster Drama Festival from Thursday, March 2, to Saturday, March 11.

Drama groups from across the country will offer audiences the chance to enjoy an impressive variety of plays. The festival will be opened by Fair City’s Detective Deegan, Tommy O’Neill, on Thursday, March 2. The launch evening includes a wine reception and all are most welcome along.

As part of the festival, Gorey Little Theatre Group will perform the Irish première of ‘ Tribes’ by Nina Raine, directed by Tara Ann Byrne. The cast includes: Malcolm Byrne, Debbie Gartland, Rob Souter, David Pepper, Joan Duignan and Karen Dunbar.

The festival line up is as follows: Thursday, March 2, 8 p.m.: Schull Drama Group, ‘Last of the Red Hot Lovers’ by Neil Simon. Friday, March 3, 8 p.m.: Moat Club, Naas, ‘Gods of Carnage’ by Yasmina Reza. Saturday, March 4, 8 p.m.: Holycross/Ballycahil­l Drama Group, ‘Little Gem’ by Elaine Murphy. Monday, March 6, 8 p.m.: Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group, ‘Agnes of God’ by John Pielmeier. Tuesday, March 7, 8 p.m.: Gorey Little Theatre Group, ‘ Tribes’ by Nina Raine. Wednesday, March 8, 8 p.m.: Kilmeen Drama Group, ‘ The Seafarer’ by Conor McPherson. Thursday, March 9, 8 p.m.: Take 5 Drama Group, ‘ The Telephone Exchange’ by Niamh Gleeson. Friday, March 10, 8 p.m. Kilrush Drama Group, ‘Hedda Gabler’, adapted by Mark O’Rowe from the play by Henrik Ibsen. Saturday, March 11, 7.30 p.m. Bridge Drama, ‘An Inspector Calls’ by JB Priestly. Tickets, available at the door, are €15 nightly, or €50 for a patron’s ticket which covers all nine nights.
