Anointing of sick – at vigil Mass of fifth Sunday of Lent, April 2, in Craanford: In this Mass we will pray especially for those who carry the cross of suffering through illness. There are some people who never get the opportunit­y to visit us for Sunday Mass but who would be able to do so on a once off annual basis if they had support from their families or neighbours. I encourage people to bring elderly or suffering family members or friends to the church for this Mass.

Parish secretary – We hope to set up a parish office in the near future to provide secretaria­l support for the parish of Craanford-Monaseed. It is hoped that this facility will also support the work of community groups in the area. Our hope is to employ a parish secretary under the auspices of the local CE scheme. This person must be at least 25 years of age and in receipt of a payment from Social Welfare This is a personal developmen­t opportunit­y and training will be provided, however some office experience would be helpful. It is with regret that Michael and Eileen Doyle announce the closure of their shop which has been trading as Doyle’s Gala in the village since May 2005. This has come about due to the downturn in trade as well as increased overheads.

Michael and Eileen wish to thank their many loyal customers who supported them over the years. Your custom was much appreciate­d. They also wish to thank their dedicated and loyal staff, most of whom have been with them since the beginning and their families who have always been there to support them.

Claire Redmond is volunteeri­ng in Capetown, South Africa to work with children with various physical and mental disabiliti­es. Claire will be hosting a coffee morning on Saturday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at her parents, Tommy and Fiona Redmond’s house, Craan Hill, as part of her fundraisin­g activities. The First Responder Group need a small amount of funds to get up and running so as to help people in our area who may find themselves in a medical emergency. If local companies or individual­s wish to make a small contributi­on toward this cause then all help will be greatly appreciate­d and may be given to Martha Hogan in either Craanford or Monaseed Schools.

The ‘Battle of the Bann’ will take place on Saturday, March 4, when boxers from Craanford take on their opponents from St Pat’s Camolin. Tickets for this much anticipate­d event are now on sale from any of the boxers and from Gala price €20.

The Fatima Rosary takes place in Davidstown Church on the 13th of each month at 3 p.m. Every first Saturday morning there is a Rosary hour in Courtnacud­dy church from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. In Davidstown the Rosary will be said before all Masses. All are welcome to come along and take part.

On Sunday, January 29, our juveniles competed in the Wexford Badminton Blitz in Enniscorth­y. There were 86 players, 178 matches, eight events, and it all took place on four courts. The following brought home prizes for Monaseed

Under-13 Doubles: Jack Smyth and Tomasso Hickey ‘Shelbourne’ Group three winners. Abbie Roche and Lauren Tobin were group four winners.

Junior B championsh­ip allIreland semi-final – all roads will lead to Raheenagh on March 12 for the club’s participat­ion in the all-Ireland junior B semi-final against Whitechurc­h from Cork. Throw in at 1 p.m. We know they will bring large numbers with them so if you can support your local team on the day it would be very much appreciate­d. See you in Limerick.

Leinster GAA are holding an under-15 league competitio­n – Craanford first match against Wicklow hurlers from Michael Dwyer’s club will provisiona­lly takes place on Wednesday, March 8, confirmati­on to follow. Matches are also scheduled for the following dates March 4 and 18. The other teams in our group are Confey from Kildare and Trim, Co. Meath.

Continued good luck to the under-10s, under-12s and under-14s in the indoor hurling tournament in Castletown being held presently over the next few weeks.

The February meeting of Monaseed ICA Guild was held in Monaseed Hall on Wednesday, February 1. There were 20 members present. President Olive Doyle welcomed everybody to the meeting and she also welcomed a new member. She also noted that get well cards were sent to Breda Byrne and Ann Whitty.

Brian Dunbar, beekeeper from Gorey, gave a very interestin­g talk on the life of bees and beekeeping. He raffled a pot of his honey which was won by Maggie Boland. It was decided to send a Mass card to Mary Fitzgerald on the death of her husband. The competitio­n winners were Dolores Tindell and Olive Doyle, and the raffle winners were Jackie Christian and Lynn Cox.

The hostesses for March are Susan Nolan and Lynn Cox. The speaker for March is Betty Lancaster, organic gardener. Gwen Stewart, physical activity leader, is to give a series of classes to the members, starting in March. The competitio­n for
