Charlene takes the Arboretum’s New Employee of the Year award

-

MARKETING Executive Charlene McDonough, from Gorey, has been honoured as the ‘New Employee of the Year’ by the Arboretum garden centres at their awards ceremony at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel in Carlow.

The award winners were voted for by their work colleagues and votes were counted across both stores, Arboretum Carlow and Arboretum Kilquade, Wicklow, as the company celebrated 40 years in business

Charlene is the Marketing Executive for Carlow and Wicklow Arboretums and was presented with a bronze award and received some gift vouchers.

‘I am based in Carlow and have been working here since March 2016. Only the staff voted. I had no idea I was nominated until my name was read on the shortlist on the night and then to win was a complete shock,’ said Charlene.

The award was presented by Arboretum co-owners Barry and Fergal Doyle at the function which was attended by 140 employees.

‘Delivering that level of service year in year out takes commitment from all our staff in both stores. We are delighted to be able to acknowledge our Arboretum employees in this award ceremony,’ said Fergal.

Celebrity gardeners Diarmuid Gavin and Dermot O’Neill spoke on the night, along with racehorse trainer Jim Bolger.

Charlene started working at the Arboretum last year. The much-coveted award of ‘Employee of the Year’ went to Gerard Heary, from Carlow
