GAA NEWS

Huge sadness descended during the week with the death of Dan Byrne, Banntown, Dan had great affection for Craanford and the GAA and we extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Breda, his sons, their families and to his brother Brendan and sister Peg and his many friends. May his kind and gentle soul rest easy in the arms of the Lord.

All roads will lead to Raheenagh on March 12 for the club’s participat­ion in the all-Ireland junior B semi-final against Whitechurc­h from Cork. Throw in at 1 p.m. We know they will bring large numbers with them so if you can support your local team on the day it would be very much appreciate­d. See you in Limerick.

Continued good luck to the under-10s, under-12s and under-14s in the indoor hurling tournament in Castletown being held presently over the next few weeks.

CHURCH NOTES

LENT 2017 – Lenten Reflection: During Lent, at each weekday Mass in Craanford, there will be a short period of reflection. For those who are intending to come to daily Mass for Lent, copies of ‘Walk with Me’ – will be made available. The theme of Walk with Me is ‘The Rich Man and Lazarus’. In this we explore the gift of Lent, especially the gift of the ‘other’, our neighbour, and the blessing of the word of God. Cost €1.30.

ANOINTING OF SICK – at Vigil Mass of fifth Sunday of Lent, April 2: In this Mass we will pray especially for those who carry the cross of suffering through illness. There are some people who never get the opportunit­y to visit us for Sunday Mass but who would be able to do so on a once off annual basis if they had support from their families or neighbours. I encourage people to bring elderly or suffering family members or friends to the church for this Mass. PARISH COUNCIL – Craanford parish council will meet on Monday, March 6, at 8 p.m. in the Parochial House.

PARISH SECRETARY – We hope to set up a parish office in the near future to provide secretaria­l support for the parish of Craanford-Monaseed. It is hoped that this facility will also support the work of community groups in the area. Our hope is to employ a parish secretary under the auspices of the local CE scheme. This person must be at least 25 years of age and in receipt of a payment from Social Welfare This is a personal developmen­t opportunit­y and training will be provided, however some office experience would be helpful.
