SOCCER NEWS

On Saturday last, March 4, the under-12 boys were away to Caim United and won by 3-1. Christopher Jordan-Kelly, Charlie Donnelly and Sophie Kirwin were the goal scorers. Sophies’s goal was a peach of a score, a superbly struck free kick.

It was down to penalties for the under-16s, away to Wexford Celtic in the Cup. 3-3 at full-time and still tied after extra time, Cormac’s were 2-1 ahead on penalties. Then the fifth Celtic free-taker strode up. He stood back, dummied and shot. He’d sent Jack Tyrrell the wrong way. For a second it looked as if he’d levelled. But Jack, diving left, stretched himself to his full length and saved the ball with his feet. Cormac’s were through to the next round. They had started badly, Celtic, struggling in the bottom of a division below Cormac’s, struck early and went into a 1-0 lead inside the first five minutes. Nathon Huzzar converted a penalty to make it 1-1 but the gutsy Wexford side, soon pulled one ahead.

Ryan Milling, who starred, brought the sides back level, but Celtic then scored their third. Nathan Huzzar again brought our lads back with a great goal and at half-time the sides were tied 3-3. A dour second half saw neither side manage to hit the net, but our lads were very lucky in the 90th. minute when a superb shot from the home side, rebounded off the upright. After extra time they were still tied and thanks to Jack Tyrrell’s heroics, out lads squeaked through on penalties thanks to great goals from Nathan Huzzar and Graham Meegan and two saves from Jack
