Nine plays will be staged throughout festival

IT’S all systems go for the upcoming South Wicklow Drama Festival which starts this Friday night, March 24 in Carnew.

The festival which sees nine acts taking to the stage over the various nights is one of the highlights of the dramatic calendar and runs until Saturday, April 1, with all shows starting at 8pm with the exception of the final night when the curtain will be raised at 7.30pm.

Once again the Festival promises a wonderful and varied line up of plays with many local groups taking part along with drama groups from counties Cork, Armagh and Cavan. Local audiences will also have a chance to see the local group, Kilrush Drama Group perform their production of ‘Hedda Gabbler.’

Patron tickets are available from any of the festival committee; from Mrs. Kennedy, Main Street, Carnew; Carnew Training and Developmen­t Centre; and from Candy’s, Carnew. Patron tickets allow you to see all nine plays for just €40.

The line up is as follows: Friday, March 24: Kilworth Dramatic Society, ‘ The Banshee of Crokey Hill’ by Tommy Marren; Saturday, March 25: Lislea Dramatic Players, ‘Juno and the Paycock’ by Sean O’Casey; Sunday, March 26: Take 5 Drama Group, ‘ The Telephone Exchange’ by Niamh Gleeson; Monday, March 27: Kilrush Drama Group, ‘Hedda Gabler’ by Ibsen in a new version by Mark O Rowe; Tuesday, March 28: Gorey Little Theatre Group, ‘ Tribes’ by Nina Raine; Wednesday, March 29: Bridge Drama, ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J.B. Priestley; Thursday, March 30: Sillan Players, ‘ The Trappe Family’ by Seamus O’Rourke; Friday, March 31: Kilmuckrid­ge Drama Group, ‘Shadow of a Gunman’ by Sean O’Casey; Saturday, April 1: Bunclody/Kilmyshal Drama Group, ‘Agnes of God’ by John Pielmeier.
