TWO small businesses from Wexford Town were the big winners at this year’s County Enterprise Awards, which were hosted by Wexford County Council’s Local Enterprise Office Wexford as part of Local Enterprise Week.

The top prize of €2,500 was awarded to Willie Devereux of Scúp Gelato from Wexford Town with runner up Nicky Lambert, of Yellow Belly craft beers, also from Wexford Town, receiving a prize of €1,000.

Four other local businesses were shortlisted at the Wexford Enterprise Awards this year. They were Mr Oil, Wexford Home Preserves, Club Choice Ireland and Bellehan Electrical Services.

Scúp Gelato will now go forward to compete for a share of the €40,000 prize fund in the final of the National Enterprise Awards, to be held in Dublin in May.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Tom Banville, Head of Enterprise at Wexford’s Local Enterprise Office congratulated the local entrepreneurs.

‘Scúp Gelato are a very worthy winner of this major enterprise award in recognition of what they have achieved here in the county. Because of its drive and determination, the company employs six people and has already developed an exciting export market, including Dubai and Singapore,’ he said.

The County Enterprise Awards are run by Local Enterprise Office Wexford in partnership with Wexford County Council. Competition updates can be found on www. localenterprise.ie/wexford
